First anime movie shown in Canada? Very far from it. Just for a few examples the new Evangelion movies played at the very same theater the Madoka movies are playing. Every year there are a few anime movies at various festivals in Montreal like Wolf Children at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma this year. Fantasia usually has a 2-3 anime movies per year.
The first anime movie I remember watching in theater was way back with Princess Mononoke distributed by Miramax.

Actually in Canada, Miramax movies were (are?) distributed by Alliance.

Ottawa seems to be left out, surprising no one.

You didn't notice SilverCity Gloucester in the participating theatres list? Or has that just been added recently?

Same here. A great way to promote the anime industry in Canada as well. Woo Yonge & Dundas here I come. (´∇`)
Too bad Aura (anime figure & model shop) closed there.
