Mushibugyō Anime Spotlight Plot Summary: The action story is set in Edo-era Tokyo in the early 1700s. The eighth shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune ordered boxes to be installed so commoners can submit their thoughts. After hearing their voices, the shogun creates a new magistrate unit—Mushibugyou—to protect the people in the heart of the city. Each member is a specialist with unique fighting skills. x Episodes Martial Arts, Shounen, Action Ep. 1 Pretty standard stuff here. Weak warrior shows potential so gets recruited into organisation. Mysterious stronger warrior. Big monsters to kill. Female lead saved by our hero, now possible romantic interest. But at the same time, none of it's bad. Characters are enjoyable enough. Story has enough going for it. Visuals are fine. Overall, there's nothing to turn me off this series so I think i'll keep watching. |

This one has some nice comedy potential.
It kinda reminds me of that wii rpg game who's name I can't remember ^^" Mushibugyo has a fair share of action. Looks like it a glorified bug exterminator anime with some family drama background. Not my thing, I dropping it. |

Episode 1
It felt rather childish while watching it, like the show was trying to appeal to a fairly young audience, although this was offset a little by the funbags what happened to the people who were attacked. To be honest there is not really much of interest, the hero is one of those types who says they want to get strong, but are a bit of a spaz and the philosophy all seems a little twisted to me. The one aspect that kind of interested me was the tea shop girl, as if the series might have something between her and lead, although that is fairly unlikely with the young tone. And I can't think of many bug type youkai other than the ones they used here, so I wonder if they chose their theme right. |

1st episode has some nice art and love the opening theme song and art and some of the Youki were kind of interesting, but over all pretty bland and generic with big boobs. This show is only scheduled for 12 episodes so i may check it out later if this show gets some buzz around it.

I actually found this decent with the action and way it was being presented. Idk why but I'm not usually a fan of series taking place in historical era. However, this show might have what it takes if it can keep it up with this pilot episode.
Yup, I'll be following this series for awhile. |

For a first episode, the show pretty much follows a basic shounen element textbook if there is one. It probably exists because of the Monster Hunter immense popularity. Pretty much Monster Hunter in Edo period except the monsters are all some type of bugs. The part that stands out for me is the gory details. The corpses actually look really creepy and disgusting. Hopefully the show finds its own identity next episode.

"Mushibugyo" sounds like an interesting anime to me. This sounds like a lighthearted mix of "Yojimbo" and "Blue Gender." It'll be fascinating to see how the disparate ingredients mix together. It'll be interesting to see.

This show has some of the most ridiculous hair I've seen in an anime in some time, it's kind of distracting in a way on how stupid it is.
The one thing this show has going for it is that it does not take itself to serious, but not to silly or comical. This anime isn't for me but it has a good blend of action and silliness. It's self aware of what the show is and does it well. |

impossibly large Rhino beetle is spoiler[destroying a large chuck of Edo,] but it's totally ok, cause it summer!!! Oh, and Oharu still has some massive mammaries

I think the show is pretty good for what it is. The story isn't exceptional but it is moving along at a good pace. Good action, interesting, thoughtful characters with back stories.
I am not an anime-vet so maybe this is just fresh to me and dull to others. |

That's one of the things I like about the character designs. Especially Mugai's hair, which makes everyone's hero look like a cockroach. Kotori's (the guy with the glasses) looks like an insect claw, Oharu (of the boobs) has extended beetle wingplates, Hibachi (of the bombs) has her antenna tails, Shingiku's (the bad boy) seems to be derived from a beetle leg, and Tenma (with the shikigami) is sort of like a ladybug. Jinbee just has hair since he's not a full-fledged bug fighter yet, but his potential shows in his ponytail which is also like an insect leg, and his father has antenna eyebrows and that serrated leg-hair/claw look to his hair. Even if you don't see in them exactly what I see, they still serve to infuse the series with bug presence whether the bugs are around or not. 
It took me about 5 episodes to warm up to this, but I'm really enjoying it now. I like that the main character, while deep in the "I must get stronger" trope, is not typical of that character type. Usually such MCs think they know everything and are looking for every opportunity to show the naysayers how amazing they really are, or they get lost in serious training mode or are otherwise not much more than their trope. But Jinbee doesn't want to get stronger for his own pride or wish fulfillment, but for his father (who he knows could have done the job so much better), and along the way he has the utmost respect and admiration for those who are clearly more skilled and knowledgeable in what they do. He is willing to learn from everyone. And even when he does well, he doesn't show any sort of smugness or braggadocio. Instead he's simply pleased things worked out, and agog at the people who helped him succeed, who he praises for being so awesome. And when he does get picked to do something he's more excited that he gets to work with those he sees as his mentors than he is at the opportunity to show off. His innocent kindness and courtesy has just won me over, like it seems to be doing with everyone in the series. While he may be mired in a shounen trope fest, he's still a refreshing character who I think has risen above the material. If you dropped it after one episode, I recommend giving it another chance. |
