Live action anime doesnt work. Plus the part of the beauty of the movie was the animation. |

| IIRC, the anime was made because it wasn't feasible to make a live-action adaptation, as casting a 4-year-old to play Setsuko was next to impossible. |

Live action anime doesn't always suck. (e.g. initial d (hk movie)... i know they changed a lot from the anime, i mean honestly, inital d has the poorest character design and character relationship anyway, so it was all with good intention) Besides, in the original anime of Grave of the Fireflies, they were going for the realistic style anyway. So i guess if they have good actors, it might work. |

However this movie is going to be based on a book, not on the Anime. 'sides, the Japanese have interesting ways of coping with live action Anime adaptations. |

The article says that the live-action film will be done from the POV of the *aunt*.
Now the anime was done in Seita's POV, and while the aunt's side of it came out strong enough, I could never grasp just why she allowed them to walk away from her without knowing that letting them leave sealed their doom.
I saw this anime as a young child, and as such, I used to sympathize with the children, and feel anger against the war and the coldness of the aunt, but that scene of their leaving was always problematic for me to analyze. I understood the plight of Seita, but as an older viewer now, I see how much *he* caused the tragedy, because of *his* pride...
And the war was something that was just there, and that the aunt wasn't mean to him just out of spite. |

I agree on that. When I showed the anime at school, I was the only one who knew that it was mostly Seita's fault for the outcome of him and his sister. It was a tough time and he was capable(unlike some kids his age today) of helping out. Even my teacher thought that the Aunt was too rough on them.
As for the movie, I'm looking forward to it! That girl looks so much like Setsuko, it's freaky!!

| I don't know but I think it could be well done. The actors look like they can play the part correctly. If it comes to america I'm hoping for a dubbed version. I would like to see another good foriegn film and one based off anime/book. The only live action movie I like outside of the US was Brotherhood of War and I'm hoping to see more movies that I can concider good that were outside US. Also, as for the aunt character I thought she was a bit mean but it was the boys fault. He should of brought bake the girl when she was sick but instead he let her stay with him trying to feed her with nothing. Don't get me wrong I felt pity for the boy for losing his mother and his father then his sister but still he should of seen the outcome and brought her back to the aunt. |
