Nana is a great manga... i ve been reading it up to the chapter 9... the characters are awesome and the story is really fresh and cool, perfect for those tired of the super powerfull good heart clumsy heros of the shounen mangas.

About the rest of the list, i ve been told that fruits basket is a great manga, i have to check it out myself.

Damm, I would never have expected Hakusensha to be outnumbered by Shueisha (even if Nana and H&C are great mangas).

That's not the point; age of the main characters doesn't determine if Nodame is josei, but rather content. While Nodame is less graphic than many other shojo manga content-wise, I think it's humor and storytelling are aimed at an older audience.
Anyways, I'm not expert on shojo, but it looks like a good list.

You notice how each series has a link to them? Well the link will direct your browser to the ANN Encyclopedia of that series, so you can find information like that.

Example:
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyou
Alternative names:
Kare Kano
His & Her Circumstances
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyou (Japanese)
Las Cosas de El y Ella (Spanish)
Le Situazioni Di Lui E Lei (Italian)

I don't think age really matter, but who the manga is targeted for.

I'm a little surprised that Sailor Moon didn't make the list. Smile

Aside from the fact that all (to my knowlege) of the titles on the list are still running, I'm assuming this magazine is targeted at older teenaged girls rather than the bulk of Sailor Moon's audience.

1. i'm happy the kare kano mangaka is sucessful. she worked hard to make her book work. she improved too. just look at #1 and the latest books.

2. i dont usually buy josei or shoujo — i buy nodame cantibile because it feels like Love Hina almost (as in a silly love story). i am not entirely sure what themes constitutes a josei title.

Having 5 out of 10 of these "Top Ten Shoujo Manga" already published in the US is pretty darn good. Anime catgrin

I've heard that at Honey and Clover is part of a new wave of shoujo/josei manga that mixes aspects of both genres. The manga companies still seem to classify these types of manga as "shoujo," however.

Actually, according to the ANN encyclopedia, Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai ended in 1995, and Chibi-Maruko-chan ended in 1996. I do agree with you that most of the respondents to the survey were teenage girls. Most of the titles mentioned were either older manga that teenage girls would have read when they were younger, or were titles on the shoujo/josei borderline.
