...the hell? That's not exactly a good thing if you have the TITLE series and have virtually no idea how to properly give the girls proper screentime and development. Then again Monty Oum's erratic time lengths in each episode does give some glimpse where his priorities lie. |

If this becomes a cash cow for Rooster Teeth, then that'll only mean Monty will bring about another season. Given that it's already Episode 13 (boy how time flies), there's only 3 episodes left. No way can everything be wrapped up in these 3 short-length episodes. Also consider how Ruby and Jaune are friends -- what happens to him may bear a factor to her... even though there's nothing going on between those two. But overall, it's basically about life at the Academy for now. |

Okay, what I'm about to say is not at all me making a statement about the show or the people behind it. It's nothing more than a neat little thing to share.
Apparently (and I forgot about this), there was an interview of one of the concept artists of RWBY, Ein Lee by Rebecca Silverman on ANN a year ago. I'm very certain what was said in the interview though had nothing to do with RWBY and was totally about Ein's career prior to that point instead. |

A lot of the character animation in episode fifteen looks really, really awkward and unnatural. Some of this looks like it came out of games I played in high school. I hope that they can find a way in the time between seasons to improve that.
Weiß' racism seems a touch sudden, although not inconsistent with her personality. In retrospect, she and Blake were rife for this kind of conflict. Ruby and Weiß have already established the basis for their bouts of antagonism, Yang seems to get along with everybody and the kind of arguments that she might have with Ruby would have a different character. (Well, I assume, I have no sister) Pure evil, or rather belief in pure evil can do funny things to your mind. I must concede that I adored Penny. I am a total, utter sucker for committed, happily cloudcuckoolander girls like her. Of course, she was so committed and happy in her identity that she was actually sort of creepy. I hope that this isn't just some damned façade, at least not wholly, but I wouldn't be too shocked if she does things to people in their sleep. I wouldn't be surprised if her demeanor is partly calculated. Whatever the case, I hope that there's more to her at some level. That personality type, as fun as it is, isn't really enough on its own. Still loved her. Weiß' and Ruby's little, 'Hell's yeah, combat skirts' hand slap was kind of great. As I recall, the first season is to be sixteen episodes, and things do seem as though they're coming to a head.
To make a... well, it's a ten minute episode, so it's not a long story, but... uh... anyway, as it turns out spoiler[Yes, Blake is a faunus. We even get a reveal, although a subdued, not dramatic one.] |

Yup. spoiler[We already knew from the Black Trailer that Blake was a member of White Fang but there were hints during the series that Blake was a Fauna.] |

Great Mid-season finale.
spoiler[It's impressive that Roman, a human, could handle both Wukon and Blake since those two are Faunas. And Penny's Nu-13! Blake and Weiss make amends and we finally meet the witch that's been helping Roman. Her name is Cinder and is voiced by Jessica Nigri!] Can't wait for the 2nd part of season 1. |

Something's wrong with the thread. I can't load the first page at all, it just comes out blank on my screen. Does anyone else have that problem?
I took a look at the first few eps last night because I was curious (and, frankly, I just wanted to hear something in English on Crunchyroll!) Let's see... 1. The length of the eps are a plus for me. Good to watch if you don't have a lot of time or you just want something between anime eps. I just wish it were consistent. I feel like I don't know what I'm getting into when I click play, since it could be anywhere from around 3-15 minutes 2. The animation looks like an unfinished CGA movie or video game cutscene. Are the creators satisfied with this, or are they working to improve the art and technique for next season? I guess it does the job, but it's unpolished (and kind of ugly, to be honest). 3. The plot seems simple but serviceable (I'm only at ep4, so it might get better or really cheesy, IDK). I like the humor okay. The voice acting's pretty good but the audio seems off. I keep having to adjust the volume. 4. Characters! Ruby is adorable and I like her relationship with Yang. Jeun (sp?) seems cool, funny and relateable. Weiss and Blake are cliche. I hate tsunderes, but like nerdy loners, so I like Blake more than Weiss. YMMV. I like how Ruby is actually trying to befriend Weiss instead of returning her enmity, which is a good trpe inversion. 5. I have no idea what they're trying to accomplish with the action scenes. Since the animation is limited and art is...unfinished. I get that they're trying to make the characters look badass, but I don't think they'll look very good. 6. The music is spectacular! So what do I have to look forward too? And is there any guide that lists the ep length of each ep? |

I bought the blu-ray! It just arrived this week. I'll need to check it to make certain it works.
Anyways, from what I've been reading, it looks like Monty and the gang are/were building all new riggings (framework) for all of the characters so that the animation is smoother and so they can have better range of motion. Here's an example of a dancing Jaune with a new rigging. Definitely a lot more mobility in the arms and legs. He stands straight up mostly though, so I wonder how well he can bend at the waist. Anyways, it's nice to see improvements already, and I imagine as the series continues they'll continue to make improvements as they did with Red vs. Blue. No announcement yet as the when season 2 is coming (or is it the 2nd part of season 1? - I'm not sure), though I'm looking forward to whenever it does. Here's a video recording of a panel that Hanabee Entertainment hosted in November that included Monty and Jordan. The most interesting part is from 36 minutes to 54 minutes. Monty shows off some new impact physics (for the hair, clothes, and yes boobs). He mentions that for the first part all clothing and hair movement had to be done by the animators for each seen, so if something looked out of place then it was because they were lazy. The impact physics allows the hair and clothes to move a bit more naturally and in reaction to movements. Time point 50 minutes: "I'm part of the 10% that didn't make porn." |
