Is it just me, or does anyone else see something, well, unfortunate about the name Shitateya?
Gotta just love the makkuro kurosuke on the knitwear though. |

I can understand Ghibli merchandise gift shops well enough, and maybe I haven't seen enough Ghbili movies, but is there any correlation between the movies and the clothing? I'm confused. Is Ghibli just opening a shop?

Yes, I think that's still the case. However, as I'm sure you know, Ghibli relies a lot more on its merchandise than other studios as they don't do much in the way of TV work to give them "run rate" business as a financial base. It looks to me as though they are trying to strike a balance between maximising revenues without getting too much brand dilution. For example, the Ghibli clothing does include design elements from Ghibli films (like the makkuro kurosuke I mentioned above), but it doesn't use the studio's logo. |
