And the answer is 2. Very Happy By the way, Blood-, you can't prove I ever claimed that.

You do realize that the problem is not the exchange rate, it is the fact that you copied us and called your currency "dollars". The fact that we misspelled/mispronounced it and stole it from the Dutch is beside the point. No one expects pounds, or yen or dong to be identical to dollars. If you Canadians would acknowledge that you are actually spending "loonies" there wouldn't be all this anguish that they were not exactly the same as dollars.

Alan you have never claimed to love me in so many words, per se ... but I believe it is simply understood. Wink

And yes, the fact that our currencies happen to share the same denominations with the same names certainly encourages the false idea of parity, but it's also because our countries border each other and we have very similar cultures. Really, you guys should just adopt the loonie and be done with it. Wink

I could pay it for you as the Great British Pound is still holding up against the US dollar... the Canadian dollar is good against GBP right?

It seems to be. But that's another reason I'm glad I have an all-region player now. The cool thing is that when I order through Amazon.uk, I don't get dinged with sales tax the way I do if I order through TRSI or Amazon.ca. So that, combined with the relative strength of the CAD against the pound means it may be cheaper for me to buy stuff from the UK. The shipping rates are damn decent, too.

That's a pretty similar reason as to why I snabbed a region free player but I can now grab US releases like SE Lain were the same price when convered but much better quality. Also I love the quality of NISA releases, plus many of their licences don't see the light of day over here.

@Blood-
I admit nothing. Mad

I don't think it would work if Canada tried to take over the US. I don't think you could handle us and we would have to put French on everything. Confused

It might be interesting to see Fox News cope with the idea that we were now a part of a Socialist paradise.

Oh, by the way. That psychedelic glitch at the beginning of a Funimation stream, I found out it shows up about the same time in if you start in the middle of a show. Not a real problem though.

I think it's adorable how you continue to try and deny the obvious.

And just to follow up on my currency exchange musings - which we've discussed before, darling - while I get that there is a certain amount of abstraction involved (i.e a US dollar is an apple, a Canadian dollar is an orange), nonetheless, drops in currency exchange values do reflect a very real and very concrete drop in purchasing power. I don't particularly care, for example, if the Canadian dollar is only "worth" 87 cents US ... as long as it stays that way. Then it simply becomes an invisible fact of life.

My $100 Cdn gets me 87 units of something imported from the US. But when the value drops and my 1 dollar CAD is now only "worth" 60 cents US ... that means I'm only getting 60 units of something for my $100 CAD. So my options are either: increase the amount of CAD I spend to maintain my original import level of units or import less units. That's not an abstraction, that's concrete.

tl;dr - we need a common NA currency, dammit!

I understand your pain. We both experienced the period where the Yen was strong relative to our currencies.

However, don't hold your breath waiting for a common currency. It is not going to happen. Like I told you before, you Canadians just need to work harder. Laughing

^Years ago when I drove from San Diego to Fairbanks I sure wished I could've lived in Canada. Beautiful country that Vancouver. My gawd. Glad I don't though, I mean I might have crappy internet and not be within 500 miles of an actual brick and mortar that sells what I enjoy the most, but I'm doing more than okay otherwise...

from a few pages back

I've had more problems with CR's player than Funi's. As slow as my connection is I was still able to watch 11 consecutive episodes without a hiccup @ Funi, so that made it that much easier to decide on the subscription.

With Funi's web player, you can. It offers SD, HD720 or HD1080...
I'm happy just to be able to get SD so I've never noticed that about the subs

it's too bad there just wasn't enough love & $$ to go around for the older stuff. I'm gonna miss them. I liked what they did and were trying to do.

Yeah, I'm doing my best to stay away from these large corporate entities, even if they are 3 times more convenient. Besides the fact that supporting local business (especially in a niche market such as Japanese Animation, compared to other markets) is just healthy for the industry...

Agree and Agree. I also try to support it as much as I can. But unless I am out of town I'm limited to online purchases. Totally sucks to be me on that point. You may have missed a lot of anime but you shouldn't feel that 5 years is a long time. I probably have at least that much in physical backlog by now... EmbarassedVery Happy

@ lem - DENKI-GAI may be a blind buy for you, but I think you'll dig it. It's a little hard to tell because comedy is so subjective and just because the show cracked me up doesn't mean it'll work for you. I'd love to own the LEs but they are too rich for my blood, so I'm waiting to see if Ponycan will "pony up" a cheaper standard edition sometime later. (I'd also love to own their Yuki Yuna Is a Hero releases, but the too rich, my blood thing still applies.)

Oh and speaking of CR's player, something new has popped up for me, but it's only happened twice so I don't know if this will become an actual "thing." What happens is the episode will be streaming and suddenly it'll jump to the very end as if it's over. Really hope this doesn't become a common error.

Does that to me sometimes, usually if my internet is throwing a wobbler. If you go back into your queue and reload it, it should start again where it left off.

That's basically what I do, except I just hit the 1080p button and it accomplishes the same thing.

I was willing to let Anime Sols rest in peace specifically because they fulfilled what I had paid for. As far as I know they did this for everyone who paid into the system. I gather this is not universal behavior.

As far as the love for older show goes, if the market is not there it is just not there. The only thing I signed up for was the Creamy Mami series. While it is a fun series in small doses I probably wouldn't have bothered with a similar show.

I have the 2001 version of The Anime Encyclopedia. I got it shortly after the release of Fancy Lala. Their entire entry on the series was to the effect that it was simply a rehash of Creamy Mami. As I remember they said much the same thing about a couple of other magical girl shows. I found this seriously irritating as Creamy Mami was not at the time legally available and as it turns out would not be for over a decade. So when Creamy Mami became available I more or less had to get it. Laughing Other older shows, not so much.

The completest in me rages that I won't get the rest of Black Jack on my shelf though. Happy to own as much as I have of it though.
