Thanks for that info, Alan45! Ugh, it's a bit heart breaking for me now, because I was actively collecting by 2011 but I didn't realize that UY was going OOP at the time. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure I would have particularly cared at that point even if I had known. I don't think OOP madness had descended on me yet. But in retrospect, knowing that I could have actually had the whole franchise for (pretty cheap) non-OOP prices is a bit galling. Oh well. As I say, I do expect a license rescue at some point.

In my memory, it was around late 2011 that I started getting interested in older releases which I believe was prompted by trading my Anime Legends Vision of Escaflowne for a very good condition Perfect Collection version and buying the GitS TV shows in their respective tins.

@Blood-

In looking at the old receipts, I found that the first DVD (as opposed to VHS) I bought was Ghost in the Shell in May 1999. Followed by Iria Zeiram, and the Tenchi Muyo Ultimate box set (the first two OVA series).. It turns out 2000 was a transition year with some titles coming out only in VHS and some in DVD. 2001 was almost entirely DVD.

It turns out my first purchase from TRSI was February 18, 1998.

Well, that should keep you busy for a while, getchman. Between you and Ggultra 2764, you guys sure made this thread interesting, lately.

Note sure why, but I just checked the first post in this massive, ancient thread. It was made on Jan. 14, 2006, so the 10 year anniversary passed without us knowing it (I think - I wasn't posting here at the time, so maybe y'all had a massive party and I missed it). I see that the OP, Azumangaman, was (and probably still is) Canadian. He only made 256 posts in his ANN career (the last one being made on Feb. 11, 2007) but in his short time here, he (or she, I suppose) did manage to create an Eterna-Thread and the one, I'm sure, that has the most posts. His report of getting vols 1-3 of Samurai 7 launched this massive orgy of consumerism.

The only username on the first page I recognize is Keonyn who had the third post and reported getting vol 7 for both FMA and Samurai Champloo. Keonyn has not posted since Monday, Nov. 30, 2015.

I went and found my first post in this thread which is on page 351 and was made on March 14, 2009, exactly one week after I joined. Here's what I had to say:

Blood- wrote:
I hit some used places last night and today. Last night bought s-CRY-ed and Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. Today picked up Diamond Daydreams, Gantz (first season), Gundam Seed Complete Feature Collection (includes a CD of music that is still in its plastic wrapper even though the set is used!) and Samurai Gun.

I'm still waiting for Beck and Le Chevalier D'eon from Amazon. It's kinda killing me because those are the two series I really want to see soon.

Of the titles I mentioned, I still have not seen s-CRY-ed, Diamond Daydreams or Samurai Gun. I may have been "dying" to see Beck and Le Chavalier D'eon, but I've still only seen the first five eppies or so of Beck and although I watched Le Chevalier to completion, I thought so little of it that I traded my copy to Petrified Jello for a not great figure of Hakufu Sonsaku (Ikki Tousen). I returned the Gundam Seed Complete Feature Collection very soon after buying it because despite it being called the Gundam Seed Complete Feature Collection, I thought it was the TV series. I eventually did get that series and still haven't watched it.

Ah, memories...

Also for Christmas, I got The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and My Neighbors the Yamadas.

A Town Where You Live BD was my only anime-related Christmas snag... the rest of my anime gifts I bought myself & shared them here when ordered...

My Christmas provisions consisted of DVD copies of The Irresponsible Captain Tylor and Otaku no Video.

I also received some goose plush toys, though these fail to qualify here.

Thanks to Christmas gifts from my family, I bought a whole bunch of manga for my collection!

From Barnes and Noble:
Princess Jellyfish Omnibus 3
Alice in the Country of Hearts: Love Labyrinth of Thorns
The Heiress and the Chauffeur Vols. 1-2
NTR Netsuzou Trap Vols. 1-2

From Amazon:
Jing: King of Bandits: Twilight Tales Vol. 5

From eBay:
Full Moon o Sagashite Vols. 1, 3-7
MeruPuri Vols. 2-3
Fall In Love Like A Comic Vol. 1
Suki Vol. 1
Sand Chronicles Vols. 3, 5

Jing was a title I've been trying to finish, but trying to find Volumes 5 and 7 for TT has been impossible unless I want to pay $30+. Only recently had I seen Volume 5 going down in price, but 7 remains pretty expensive and hard to find. One day though!

Both Heiress and NTR I read the reviews on here and I thought I'd give them a try based on them. And everything on eBay was from one seller; all of the books were half their retail price plus free shipping.

I bought a British import dvd of Baccano. Wanted to watch it, couldn't find a legal online source, and the US dvd is apparently out of print.

I don't know how interested you are in other AoA titles, Zubby, but you'll find you can get the UK versions of them much cheaper, generally. I recently calculated the difference in cost between buying all the various Monogatari franchise titles from AoA versus through the UK and the difference came out close to $700.

Got email notice from TRSI that my holiday sales package is on its way, minus TMoHS novel 9 which is still out of stock. I was really hoping the package would be delayed until at lwast Jan. 1 so that the dollar amount would appear in my 2017 Purchases instead of bloating my already over-budget 2016 amounts. Plus, shipping to Canada is so speedy now compared to previous years from TRSI that there is an outside chance the package may arrive at the shipping address while the office is still closed, which would be a drag.

I can't recall the last time I've showed off anything anime-related on here, but this is a rare treat considering the rarity of this big beast. My shipment of all the Urusei Yatsura stuff came in the mail today. Here are photos of all the volumes to the franchise I received:
