REVIEW: Allison & Lillia Sub.DVD 1

Never heard of this show before, so a sub-only release is no surprise.

Watched some of an episode of this on TWC's Anime Network on Demand. Glad I ain't the only one who thought he main dude sounded to much like chick. Laughing

I loved Kino's Journey, and I'll definitely be picking this one up.

unfortunately Allison isn't nearly as good as Kino's Journey. I was so happy that another novel from the author was being animated, but then the series' childishness and overall flatness were a big disapointment for me v.v Well, I guess it's a great show to show to you children at least oO

I recall watching the first four episodes of this, and in those first four episodes, the two plucky teen leads managed to single-handedly spoiler[end an intractable, centuries-long war]. At which point the series lost any believability or interest to me. The opening and ending themes were gorgeous, though.

yea, and that's just the first arc =) It doesn't really get any better. As said, it's perfect as a children's show. And in the end, they did actually re-broadcast it as one as well (same happened for Kobato, f.ex.). I guess NHK did have this in mind when producing it the way they did.

Luckily, the show that followed Allison, which was Denno Coil, was really good, despite being aimed at children. So maybe there is hope that one day that one will be released overseas as well oO

Not exactly my favorite type of Anime and would have picked it up if it was universally praised. Seems more of a rental then a show to own. Will be passing on this one.

Hmm, I remember watching the first three or so episodes when this came out and not really being impressed by it. I was going to try it again now that it's online (I think)/on DVD but, after seeing the comments here, think I'll pass on that too.

Sure there are plenty of flaws in design and the like (Benedict's beard is a complete hoot), and there are plot holes you could drive a carriage and four straight through (sepecially in the very last episode). On the other hand, the leads all have an attractive air about them and the whole thing reminds me of nothing more than the (equally belief-stretching) Saturday matinees I remember from my 1950's childhood. On that reckoning, nostalgia, if nothing else, has found this series a place on my anime shelves.

I think most of the assessments of the series are pretty accurate. It's a lightweight, easygoing adventure series that I felt was a fun watch, warts and all.

I was so excited about this series (because of the connection to Kino's Journey) when it first came out that I actually watched the first few episodes, and I almost never watch fansubs.

I wasn't really impressed and never got around to going any further. Even so, it seemed nicely animated and I wasn't completely disinterested so I may give it a shot now that it is getting a release here.
