I just finished watching Escaflowne and i thought it was quite simple amazing.

im not that bigger fan mecha but still i found myself completely entranced with the show. i do like Macross and appleseed and other mecha anime but i think it was the romance in Escaflowne that made for such a compelling storyline.

I believe that to make a good film or TV series of any kind you need to have a good story, and Escaflowne had a fantastic story that always kept me guessing. the fight scenes were also amazing spoiler[and the fight between Allen and Van towards the end of the series] was just fantastic.

the show had some many of those "special moments" u love in anime. spoiler[my favourite was the reaction of Van when he see Allen and Hitomi on the bride kissing]. i could feel so much emotion from the character when he saw them.spoiler[ i could almost see his heart break in his eyes]

i thought the characters were especially good, van was just amazing and Allen was just as good if not better. the whole love triangle really got me intrigued into the show from the very beginning just like Macross +. the combination of really great characters a fantastic story line and not forgetting my favourite anime intro, really made the show worth my time and I would urge just about every anime fan who hasn’t done so already, to watch Escaflowne. So first off it gets 2 big thumbs up from me.

their were some parts of the series i thought were a bit baffling like the whole Allen’s sister thing i didn’t find that too convincing but none the less was surprising.

i see there is also a movie and i was wondering if it was any good or whether it would just ruin the whole Escaflowne image and take away the magic. if anyone knows could they please tell me

Finally i want to know what you made from this series whether u hated it or loved it. Or perhaps u just thought it was ok and not really anything special.

Thank you

I haven't seen the series yet, I remember watching it on FOX back in the day and loving it but I've been waiting for a more affordable price to pick up the series. I believe in April I will finally get to watch my Escaflowne.

But anyways, I loved the movie. It had a lot of action, but I feel that the mecha battles are not all that great. They feel kinda slow for some reason. It was a really good fantasy series, and if you liked the series, I don't see why the movie would take away the magic from the original series.

If you had seen the series, you would know this isn't necessarily true. The movie has the same set of characters, but the setting has been somewhat altered, and so have the personalities and motivations of the characters, and not for the better. The plot of the movie really isn't the same as the series either. The first couple times I tried to watch it, I couldn't force myself to watch more than the first 10 minutes because so much had changed. It's darker and more serious, and the main characters are much whinier. I did eventually force myself through the whole movie, but I still didn't like it.

Eskaflowne was fun to watch, very original series and there is plenty of action. The Hitomi character is a bit over the top and whines too much. From the graphical point of view, I didn't like the way the artists drawed noses, they were way too pointy and pulled upwards. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. I give it a thumb up and a half.

I recommend the movie as well. The animation is even better than the series. The story has been modified quite a bit, and there is less mecha action. spoiler[Van and a few of the bad guys are the only ones owning gaymelefs. ]. However, I think you'll probably enjoy it a lot, even if the story has been changed a lot in order to fit in 90 minutes.

I just finished watching this too, and i found it to be amazing. The story was great but the ending seemed a little weak if you ask me. How come they never played this or the gundams on AS in the past few years. People would love it.

I actually just finished watching this lsat night. I dindt think the ending was weak at all... It seemed that everything really did build up to the ending, however, spoiler[I did think that Daedulus being Celena was a bit odd and deus ex...] other thant hat, I thoguth the series as a whole was great. Along with the OP, i dont really enjoy mecchas but I will make an exception for this.

Another thing I'd like to add is my dislike for hitomi. Her character seemed to fluctuate too much spoiler[(mainly in regards to her feelings)]... I didn't see her as having real feelings because she spoiler[easily left Gaea back to Earth, and then finally regretting it there...]

I think that's one of the big points of the whole series. The main plot is about Hitomi's growth into maturity. Like many teenagers, she doesn't know what she wants yet. spoiler[She starts off thinking she's in love with Amano, but finds that it's just his appearance that she's attracted to (not that he isn't a very nice guy) when she falls for a guy who looks very much like him but has a very different personality. Then she thinks she's fallen in love with Allen, but gets a rude awakening about how little she knows about him when she finds out he's Chid's father, and realizes that she can't really love him if she doesn't really know him. It isn't until the end of the series that she finally realizes that it's Van, who has genuinely become her friend, who she really loves. It's a cautionary tale about not falling too hard for the first person who turns your head - something that most of us learn in the process of growing up.]

As for the series, it's one of the best fantasy anime out there, and belongs in the collection of any magical girl or mecha fan. Anyone inclined towards either genre should like it. And the soundtrack is one of anime's best, for those into music.

I second that, the music is first class!

Personally I think that the anime(the movie anyways i haven't seen the series so I won't comment) is so good it shouldn't be limited to the genre of mecha since the ginat robot at least IMO isn't really the epicenter of the movie. Although mecha is the most appropriate, drama/epic could also be a sub-genre for it or at least adventure seing as she was in a whole nother world and the one guy with the sword (haven't seen it in a while) and the one guy was explaining that some kind of war was going on but I guess mecha is the easyiest to classify it but I think it should open minds more than just another "robo-flick".

It's an awesome series a friend and I were watching it on FOX when it got canned a few years later I scraped togather the cash and bought it and we had a huge marithon with the boxset. We were both quite impressed with it, good story, great characters, interesting mecha battles, and excellent music.

I wish the movie was longer, it feels compressed and whatnot. There are very few shojou animes I like, Escaflowne being one of my favorites. Overall the series and even the movie has a great design(sound, visuals, relationships, etc) which is why Escaflowne is good. If you are watching the movie AFTER watching the series, please watch with an open mind because its radically different from the TV series. Has anyone here read the manga? I'm wondering what the differences in story between the TV series and manga is.

I really enjoyed the heck out of both the series and the movie. I think that I was on drugs or something when I sold them off. Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes So when the box set is released for the "cheaper" price, I'm going to get it.

Don't compare the movie to the series, treat it as something completly seperate. I think that may be one reason why some don't like the movie. The visuals for the movie are certainly much better than the series (movies usually are...bigger budgets) and the music is just incredible.

...I really must have been out of my mind to get rid of those...
