Tell when could the N64 take a handheld pokemon's 2D characters and render them into 3D?

And I am talking cgi movie quality real time.

Quite impressive visuals in the trailer they showed off and the pokemon physically attack one another and do real time enviromental damage. Also when the trainer signals them to attack the animation is carried out. So the poke trainers point to their pokemon like they do in the cartoon.

Also the Naruto RPG 3 for the DS looks pretty good too.
