I really enjoyed the first season even with the head scratching last episode. I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel.
Maken-Ki! sounds like it has some potential as long as it isn't another horrible show like Kampfer.

I have to wonder how much anime you have watched, because the last episode being filler, fluff, fanservice, or something else non-critical to the story line isn't by any means unique to this series. |

The final episode was filler probably because they didn't want get somewhat into the next light novel and leave it on a cliffhanger. Which would also ruin the surprise announcement of a second season.
Plus from what I've read, the DVDs/Blu-rays have sold really well in japan. Not to mention that Funimation has grabbed the license to the 1st season, which is unusual this close to it's original airdate. So, it's attracting buyers & companies to license it overseas.
It was kinda hinted at in the final episode that it would continue. Especially with the girl walking up the stairs at the end. |

Well, I thought the last episode was a great denoument. 
I'll be happy to watch season two! Truth is though that I distinctly thought I remembered this announcement being made some time ago (must've been the OVA or the Funimation license) so it's not much of a surprise. |

| Cool, I liked the show. I'll be especially happy to have a second helping of Vampinja, especially with her calling Zombie Boy a "disgusting piece of shit" constantly. And God does my memory ever blow. I know I watched the final episode but I have absolutely no memory of it all. |

Awesome male lead, pretty interesting charatcers, good design, decent comedy/drama mix. |
