Eh, "disgusting piece of shit" is funnier than "dung-beetle." I'll take cheap laughs over literal translation any day (as long as the essential meaning isn't changed - dung beetle is clearly an insulting term, so "disgusting piece of shit", while not a literal translation, at least keeps the same spirit.)

I would agree with you if it were a dub script, as in that sort of thing it's a far better idea to play fast and loose in order to get the point across. When it comes to subtitles, I'd much rather have something a little closer to a literal translation (but not overly so).
But then, I personally didn't find the "PoS" thing to be all that funny at all. |
