Intense finish!
spoiler[Midousuji kinda snapped high on victory to come. More info about his past this time. He was weird even as a kid.. Still, he wasn't always so mean & victory obsessed. Guess the death of his mom turned him cruel & uncaring. In the end he wasn't good enough.. Victory got snatched right in front of his eyes.] |

Yeah, how can I hate him now that I know Midousuji's past? It made me want him to win. spoiler[Not only did it look like he didn't but he probably hurt himself too]. |

Knowing his past doesn't cause me to reconsider my feelings about him. They made me strongly dislike him, and waited too long to try to mitigate those feelings. It was a sad story, but I still don't like him, and I don't care about his past at this point. I felt sorry for his mom (even tearing up a smidge), not being able to participate in his life as he grew up, but him? Hah! Day 3's going to take the rest of the series, right? <sigh> |

I did not say that I liked him, I said that I don't hate him. I can feel for him and root for him a little without actually liking him. |

By the way, the Maki's Kitchen extra in episode 2 is a parody of "Mokko's Kitchen," which is a morning cooking show hosted by a former (?) boy band member. Just a little tidbit you would have to live in Japan to understand...lol.
Corning like that would be f*cking terrifying, for what it's worth. Of course, the tires would slide and you would crash before you could ever get it that low. Maybe unless you weigh, like, 90 pounds. |

i want Midousuji to win. I don't know why, the teams/people that i want to win in anime, they never win. The teams that i want to win in real pro sports won many championships. lol

The way things stand Midousuji was already a love/hate guy. If people hated him before this episode not much is going to change. I thought it was pleasant to see his backstory though (and I unconditionally love him so it never mattered to me
 ).
I really can't help but wonder if the chipped tooth is just symbolism for his body giving out or if it actually cracked. The guy has been chomping like that for this entire race. Seems cheap to make that the only reason he would lose at the last second

spoiler[Nerve shattering finish! I just love this anime <3 Shame Hakon got the first place, but Sohoku has one more chance left! Well, 2nd day is over. Kinjou got hurt this time. Everyone was exhausted. Time to re-charge for the last day.. 2nd half of the episode was relaxing with some interesting flashbacks. Wonder how the final day will go...] |

I almost feel kinda bad for spoiler[Akira now. I hope he competes again soon because it would be a shame if he misses out....]

So despite that guy spoiler[thinking that he won on his own strength, he actually did win because he cheated from causing a knee injury the previous year]. If the main characters do win, they better spoiler[throw it in the faces that the other team only got so far because he cheated]. |

I think it's both. Hence the mask. Kid needs an emergency Lumineer application.  But I thought that part was really sad, like the only things he had left from his mother (her pride in his winning and his teeth) got taken away in one fell swoop. No wonder he's taking it so hard.
I have a bad feeling about the trip next episode... |

I personally think he literally chipped a tooth, which either distracted him or broke his spirit, and even a tiny little mental think can ruin you when you've raced that hard for that long and have two guys coming up from behind you.
Did anyone notice the Subaru signs said "subuta," which is Japanese for Chinese sweet and sour pork? ....or did I already mention that.... I don't think he necessarily lost because of his knee, the final sprint simply caused it to flare up again. Could be wrong, though. He probably would have lost by much more, or had torn it if had flared up during the sprint. |

spoiler[Midousuji dropped another bomb. His loss last time took a toll on him. Onoda found a common ground with Midousuji?! No way! Of course it turned into a race. Looks like Midousuji learned something from Onoda. It was the push that he needed. The final stage has begun! Those green guys look like trouble though.] |
