Yeah, but the people at FUNimation didn't choose to rename it.
That's a little strongly worded. It doesn't matter whether you have good taste or not, this title is bland and tasteless. |

Ahh, a quick search on amazon.co.jp for うたわれるもの gives us a nice ~$130 box that I can guarantee does not say "Shadow Warrior Chronicles" on it.
*EDIT* Think I linked the wrong one the first time. Should be fixed now, as this is the link to the Region 1 release. *EDIT* Hehe... BOX セット (BOX setto)... You have to love the Japanese use of the katakana. *EDIT* This is the last one, I promise. But I found this very, very cute figure here |

Awww, and I spent such a long time learning how to say "Uta-wa-re-ru-mo-no," too. Though I did find that it was easier to just call it "Utaware." xD
Anyways, I'm actually quite happy about the licensing of this series! I've been following it for a while, and even though ADV kind of decided to wing it on the title, they usually do a good job with their anime, so we won't get any 4kids butchers here. I'll be sure to buy the volumes, though, in order to support the company, and also just because it's an awesome show! |

I use this text document to keep track of what episode I am up to in different series, and for Utawarerumono I just use Utaware, heh. I guess I'm not the only one to use that abbreviation. |

Err...someone just posted this in /a/ on wakachan.org:
I am so hoping it's a joke... |

I don't believe that for a second. ADV doesn't change the names of the characters. Anyway, wow, I don't really like the new title ADV gave them, but I suppose they'll do a good job with the dubbing. However, I do hope that at least one group keeps on subbing it until it's over in Japan. |

Oh I don't know, maybe one could actually read the info for the series on the back of the DVD case if they are looking at it in a store? Or read a summary of it before passing judgment for the simple fact of its name? Ah now, that may just be too much work! IMO it is stupid to judge a DVD by its name, I am not saying that people don't, aren't, or that they don't have a right to do so.
Are we reading the same thing here? The guy said he wasn't going to buy it now because he considered the new name "product-raping." Not that he didn't have enough money, time or something like that. I don't care about peoples incomes or if they are able to afford anime or not. I don't know about you, but I don't narrow down the titles I am going to watch based on their names, maybe if I were 12 I would do something so juvenile. Though you seem to be of the opinion I am or that I have no taste.
Now I have not seen any of this series yet, so I have no idea how well the title relates to the anime. In any case, the title to me is just a standard anime title. I am not in love with it nor do I think it horrible. It is just a regular title; maybe I just don't have that high of standards... On another note, I would just like to say that I looked over your list of seen anime and we seem to have a lot of the same titles as well as having similar opinions on them. Just thought I would throw that in there because quite frankly I am tired of this debate, so I am calling a truce. |

Wow... those translations (if you can even call them that) are so off it isn't even funny. ハクオロ = Hakuuro (I put the double "u" because it is a long vowel sound, even though, technically, オ= o). I've never heard of this name being transliterated into "Hary." ADV is not some terrible company, so I doubt this is real. *EDIT* Reading the list a second time, the only name that makes sense is カルラ, which is Karura romanized. So Karla would not be a bad transliteration for this name. But the rest are still horrible. |

That would be "Hakuoro", pronounced as "ha-koo-oh-roh". It's true that 'o' and 'u' can combine to form one long sound in Japanese, but only when the 'o' comes first. The other names in the order of the list, for anyone who hasn't seen it... "Eruruw", "Aruruw", "Touka", "Karura", "Oboro", and "Kamyu". The worst one on that list is "Kamyu --> Keith", given that Kamyu is a girl. As for the name change, "Shadow Warrior Chronicles" is pretty lame. There's no reason to use the original title, but they could easily translate it to "The One Being Sung" or "That Which is Sung". |

It'll be interesting to see how they'll translate "Amururineuruka Kuuya"...

And I thought changing Karin to Chibi Vampire was a bad idea, but this is just going too far. How do they get Shadow Warrior Chronicles from The One Being Sung, and how does Shadow Warriors even fit the anime? They're not going around killing everyone in the shadows, it's a full frontal war we're talking about, not assassinations. As for the name Utawarerumono, I didn't have any trouble pronouncing it the first time I saw it, but that's most likely because the vowel sounds are similar in Latin, and since I'm in choir I have to learn all of the vowel sounds of several different languages (I still can't believe our director gave the freshmen the Japanese piece, poor things couldn't pronounce it for the life of them).

PROTIP:It's not real. Joke rumor perpeutated by overly sensitive wannabe japanese who are mad that ADV isn't pandering to the 100 people who even know how to pronounce Underwater Ray Romano and are instead going for the tens of thousands of people who, you know, look beyond the title. I've been watching it on fansubs - which are in the process of being deleted - and will get this on DVD. I like it. THey could call it "AINU DOGS FROM A PORN GAME" And I'd still buy it. Great series, could care less what the title is. |

I love this anime and I'm personally glad they changed the title as I still can't spell it after all this time...

Ahh, you're right, my mistake. That is how is name is pronounced. However, I thought I remember being told that the "o" following the "u" can still make it long. I'll look into it again. |

Eugh. Utawarerumono is such a wonderful title, how could it fall into the butterfingers of such a trashy company like ADV? Their dubs are probably the worst out of all the major companies that work with anime, including 4Kids; this isn't based on the merit of their scripts or coaching, the actors are just bloody weak.
Oh, and the title is retarded. This show isn't for children; most of the humour is very adult. Screw ADV, I'm certainly not going to buy this title anymore.
Andy, I think that's a bit too awkward a translation. I would have thought "The One Sung of in Legends" as the best title, but Utawarerumono is the most appropriate. |
