Justification-

This is an OVA. It is also a very high quality OVA. This OVA only recoups cost based on what it sells. As it doesn't have to deal with direct corporate sponsorship or things like that, it can retain the freedom to follow source material more accuratly and essentially do what is wants. It's a privatly funded venture which is paid for and enjoyed by fans. Think of it like a professional-animated fan-comic.

Also, speciality shops are criminally overpriced, especially in comparison to normal retailers and online shops.

Depends on what sort of product you're looking for.

Quote:
They gouge on the basis of misinformed and impatient people.

They charge directly to what they think will garner them the best and most reasonable profit while taking into account that said profits have to pay staff and go back into production of yet more episodes.

Remember ADV's one shot OVA Grrl Power!, or whatever? Notice how it was half an hour or so, but only cost $15? Take that into consideration here. Grrl Power! is another OVA, but it's shorter and probably had much less of a budget to work with. It doesn't have the benefit of TV advertising so who exactly do you think has to pony up for such a release? THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WATCH IT. The people who will have the priviledge of watching it while others, who would only wait for TV broadcasts, cannot.

Quote:
The kind of people that probably still think everything in english is edited still, and Funimation is still a bad company.

Chances are, people who think that wont even know what an OVA is nor how it will work.

Now I'm sorry (well, not really) that you think it's 'unfair' or that it should be different, but the reality of the situation is that this is what it is. It's a luxury item, a high-priced, high quality one that only has a limited audience. What do you expect them to do, go to the govournment and ask for a grant? For a ultra-violent, Japanese made, ENglish-situated cartoon with basically no cultural benefit?

Please.

If you don't want to pay for this then rent it......I can justify this because Geneon is a company that I respect. They take chances, hell they are doing something we never thought would happen. Think about it, how many times did Answerman get a question about some company making series X again? Geneon helped get this project moving, if these OVA sell well thinks about what over series could possible get pick up again.

hey guys

Is there an official source that the name of the character is really Alucard? I heard "Akkard" everythime I heard the audio in the japanese episodes.

It will not be the only screw up on the translations of the names anyway, in Macross, one character was called "Kamjin" when his real name was written "Quamzin"

please point to real sources and no speculation or personal oppinions please, thanks

Read the English-language manga. The translation in those is 100 percent vetted by the Japanese.

His name is Alucard. There isn't any question about that, that isn't my "opinion" or "speculation".

I hate it when people throw around this term. Especially when they have no idea what they are talking about. In order for this term to be used effectively, it must reach a very limited amount of circumstances. If any of these are not met, "then all is fair", as they say.

I would explain things more but it would be useless, since you obviously have a skull of mush.

And as far as justifying anything, well, the market will do that all on its own. But something tells me you aren't the kind of person who believes in free markets.

Well... I do have a very socialist/Communist belief structure, if that's what you mean.

I think, generally, the main goal of a company is to screw over the consumer as much as possible, without the biggest chance of them noticing, with the most profit at the end.

You do know why any company does anything? It is to make money! Even if you have socialist beliefs that is fine but no company is going to survive without making a profit.

Therefore with a high quality product such as Hellsing there is bound to be expensive dvds. I was originally expecting only one episode per DVD, so to me I don't mind spenting more for a premium item. Othwewise just wait a while and then there will be sale and you can pick up this dvd (and the others) at a better price.

What the hell is it with kids these days thinking each and every single company is out to screw people? It's their own product, a luxury one, and if you don't want it for the price they're asking for, don't get it. Dont expect them to lower their margin for you because you can't be bothered.

Okay....

I thought about this, and how to phrase it in a short space, so sorry for the caveman talk.

Company makes some cool shit, man I would like some of that. Costs thirty pigs, fudge that you know how hard I work for those damn pigs. I will give you ten, no more.

Sorry as low as I can go is if you buy from my uncle Jimey, he'll give em to ya for 25 pigs

fudge that, are you blind I am a huge fan, I won't give you that many swine though.

Its okay, I got Mr. Anderson who wants twenty, and he will pay MSRP for it. Smile

Wait wait, please leave one for me.

Okay fine, the lowest I go is twenty two though.

Man you are just trying to screw me over.

It costs us 12 pigs just to look at the master, much less produce it. We try to please the majority of our costumers.

fudge you, anyone who wants it should have it.

Well that kinda goes against standard practices.

fudge those practices.

Okay well I think we are done here.

Are they selling a Hellsing box set or DVDs in stores right now? If they are where do they sell it?

They currently sell the Hellsing TV series in a boxset, and it should be pretty much available anywhere. Mind you though, that Hellsing Ultimate and Hellsing TV are completely different things.

Oh!

I already actually saw it at my local anime shop (thought it was the old one, but then, now I'm sure it's the new one)... hmmm...

I wanna buy it, but I really shouldn't deviate from what I'm supposed to get over the next few months.

I'll probably just go with the new Hellsing... Taliesin Jaffe directed the new dub too, so I'm all set.
