The January Report
The February Report

----------------
This OP will eventually list all NA anime licenses announced in 2014. As is the case with the Release thread, this thread is NOT intended to replace WTK's solicitations threads. It is designed to let people see in a single post what North American distribs have licensed. I will list Funimation and Sentai licenses first because historically they have licensed the most titles. Distribs will be listed in alphabetical order after that.

Here's a sample entry:

FUNIMATION (tally of TV, OVA, Movie titles) (tally of 1st releases, license rescues) - no. of home releases (hr), no. of digital only (dig.)

TV (no. of titles) (tally of 1st releases, license rescues)
Title - format - language - (date announced - original broadcast date = full days between the two; if license was announced in advance of broadcast, number of days will be in red) - animation producer - type (1st release/re-release/license rescue) - street date - notes

OVA (no. of titles) (tally of 1st releases, license rescues)

Movie/Special(no. of titles) (tally of 1st releases, license rescues)

As you can see, I will be categorizing the releases between TV, OVAs and Movies/Specials (I will rely on the ANN Encyclopedia to identify those distinctions).

Obviously, I will be only able to list whatever information is made available at the time of the original announcement so things like format, language, extras and release date may not be available. I will keep running totals of the number of titles announced by company.

Let me know if there is any other data you'd like tracked with respect to license announcements.

The January Report

Funi: 5 TV (4 digital, 1 home) all 1st releases.
Sentai: 8 TV (7 digital/home, 1 home only) all 1st releases.
Cinedigm: 1 TV (home) both a 1st release AND a license rescue.
Discotek: 1 TV, 1 OVA, 1 Movie (all home) TV was license rescue, others are 1st releases.
NISA: 2 TV (home) both 1st releases.
VIZ: 1 TV (home/digital) license rescue.

Digital-only Distribs

Crunchyroll: 17 TV, 1 movie - all 1st release
Daisuki: 3 TV - all 1st release (and all running on other digital platforms)
Neon Alley: 2 TV - both catalog titles

----------
For myself, I hope that Funi's digital licenses for D-Fragments and Nobunagun eventually become home releases. As for the rest, only Sentai's Wizard Barristers is really tugging at my attention. I have publicly vowed to buy a copy of all NISA's PE releases, so I have to get Chronicles of the Going Home Club and Nyaruka but I'm not burning for them.

I thought Aniplex of America were the ones behind the Aniplex in America streams. Such as, and I may as well quote:

Quote:
SANTA MONICA, CA (December 19, 2013) – Starting 2014 with brand new titles, Aniplex of America Inc. has announced today that they will be simulcasting two highly-anticipated shows for this winter anime season: Nisekoi and World Conquest Zvezda Plot. Both titles are set to start streaming in January just hours after its original broadcast in Japan. Both titles will be produced by animation studios that have produced multiple hit anime series including popular Aniplex of America titles. In addition to their streaming plans, Aniplex of America is also planning on a home video release of these titles. Details about the physical releases will be announced at a later date.

Yes, as noted in the OP, both Nisekoi and World Conquest Zvezda Plot are streaming on Crunchyroll and Daisuki. Aniplex is a partner in the Daisuki site (along with four other studios) so its streaming shows tend to show up there. Fortunately, these also appear on Crunchyroll which is my preferred platform.

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread, but it appears that Funimation might have picked up Ben-To. Source here.

Ooooooo, yeah! I'm going to wait for an official announcement but I think that is definitely a good sign. Awesome! At the absolute bare minimum it means that Funi must have the streaming rights and it seems unlikely they would just get streaming rights for a show that is a couple of years old.

Why isn't Kill la Kill included in the Winter 2014 Crunchyroll list?

And I'm sticking with my own which is neither {watching first run anime on a non anime site? Impossible!. But yet... Why? I've had enough run ins with real non-licensed anime. I still get too much to watch but the odds of getting a home release are much better} But that's not my point; I'll try to explain it with a visual aid:

Quote:
ANIPLEX OF AMERICA (0 TV, 0 OVA, 0 Movie) (1st: 0, LR: 0)

Ok, AoA has licensed those two shows with streaming and physical release rights then

TV (0) (1st: 0, LR: 0)

should be

TV (2) (1st: 2, LR: 0)

It's no different from Funimation streams {which I watch now} or Sentai streams {which I have to wait four weeks thanks to Crunchyroll}, AoA is streaming them now and regardless of which site they use or own, they have the NA licenses for those two titles.

Ah, I understand you now. The reason those two titles don't show up in the AoA section is that both of those licenses were announced in December of 2013 and the OP only lists titles that were/will be announced in 2014.

That's the same reason why there are some Winter '14 titles in Crunchyroll's line-up that don't appear above: because they were announced in December.

It's your list, but shouldn't the defining characteristic for a "2014 Anime License" be that the show is licensed and available in 2014 no matter when the license was announced? That's what the title of this thread implied to me.

@ yuna49: I have altered the title of this thread to Announcements from List. Hopefully, that should prevent any confusion of the sort you had.

I deliberately wanted this thread to include only licensing announcements made from Jan. 01, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2014.

I wish I had started doing this years ago, but this is actually the first year I'm getting off my ass to do it.

On a personal note, I was absolutely delighted to see Discotek pick up School Days. I never thought this title would get a N.A. release. Woo-hoo!
