Hajime Isayama deserves applause for these numbers.
Despite being inevitably compared to One Piece in terms of records, the fact that it can even be compared in the first place says enough about Attack on Titan's feats. |

you do realize that in terms of revenue AoT gained more than OP in 2013 ? and if this keeps up , with the sales of AoT world wide " it's a big hit every where as much as i know, unlike OP " it will be the most revenue generating manga in 2014 too ? |

Not to mention One Piece wasn't selling as much by its 13th volume (it was selling around 1.7-2 million total up till 2008).
The sales and the speed at which it has reached these sales is what's very impressive. |

AoT is nothing comparing to OP. AoT had over 15mln in 2013 (OP selled over 18mln for reminding) because anime was aired then and a lot of people had gone to shops and bought all 10 volumes, so number of sells jump really high. In 2014 it normalized so it will be around 8mln max and OP will be over 25mln with this epic action what Oda is serving us nowadays. AoT had its moment, HAD. Nothing can stop OP. |

There's no need to compare them. Records are made to be broken anyway. AoT's feat is temporary until another epic series — or maybe even One Piece breaks it.
Though I have to be honest, I like AoT but my interest towards it is dwindling as the story unfolds. spoiler[Not even the latest revelation of Levi's name made me wow.] |

The revenue that you're talking is(in Yen): 01) 12 924 700 000 Shingeki no Kyojin 02) 11 061 300 000 One Piece The thing is that those numbers only talk about Manga(original and spin offs), Novels(including light novels), DVD/BD and Sound. Only that! No Merchandise. No TV ratings. No Advertisement. No Events. 1.7-2 million is still better than what Attack on Titan is doing. Unless we count the special edition as well, making the numbers similar(normal edition sells around 1.6M and special edition around 300k, making a 1.9M average). I know that at least One Piece had a 1.35 million first print, by volume 11 and around 2003(vol 27 to 31) it had a print of 2.65 Million. Right now Attack on Titan has 2.75 million, but that includes the special edition as well. Did One Piece has ever had a special edition?(Well, with the quality of TOEI animation I guess not). |

1.7-2 million is total, not first week. And yes, I count the special edition (as I do with all series : Silver Spoon, Fairy Tail...). There may be a few people buying both editions but it's generally marginal, most people will be buying either one or the other. ^^ |

That's true, but to still sell more than 3m copies after 70 volumes is more impressive. the longer the series is, the harder it is to keep quality and popularity. |

Please specify that you're talking about revenue from some items which Oricon tracks sales of. I think that list only included manga, books, audio cds, dvds. It didn't even include games. Yes, if we're talking about revenue from manga sales, Titans beat pirates for 2013, but overall revenue - we don't have numbers yet, and I think One Piece has the crown with overall revenue since it has a movie and more toys than Titans in 2013. I will agree with Kutsu though that Titans reached over 10 million copies sold faster in a year than One Piece did, 5 times faster. One Piece only sold over 10 million in 2009 when it had 55 volumes. Compare to Titans selling over 10 million with just 11 volumes.
For 2014, my spreadsheet tells me that Titans has a chance of getting over 10 million again. |

That is totally wrong. Don't forget that we only have reliable oricon information since 2008. Saying that before that, when we didn't have information, One Piece never sold over 10 millions is certainly wrong. Let's see. If One Piece all the years since 1998 had sold 10 million copies every year until 2009 where it sold over it. Than right now it would have less than 73,322,112 copies than what currently has(Total copies sold - ((10M * years from 1998 to 2008) + money since 2009)). It is known that One Piece around volume 42 it reached 100M copies sold, that was in 2006, this is 8 years after his start. In average it would need to sell 12,5 M each year to make that. Certainly One Piece sold over 10 millions before 2009. I would even guess that just like Attack on Titan it got over 10M when it got its anime. |
