So happy to see this!! Especially that it will have Stars, finally! I know I'll be getting that, and may pick up the whole series even though I have the original releases to show support and with the talk in the interview about an LE release. The screenshot comparisons are also quite nice.

Yeah, their treatment of Full Moon is one reason I normally hate Viz anime licensing any shojo. In this case though, I seriously doubt they would be so insane.

I want that old English theme song, in all its glory, remastered and available for streaming. Heck, release a soundtrack!

*Fighting evil by moonlight,
Winning love by daylight,
Never running from a real fight,
She is the one, she's Sailor Moon~

She will never turn her back on a friend,
She is always there to defend,
She is one on whom you can depend,
She is the one, Sailor Moon!

(Please correct my lyrics if I got something wrong. That's all from memory Wink )

Maybe as an alternate track, but it might be better to get an English version closer to the Japanese original. Even for the theme song.

(Usagi does frequently run from a real fight.)

And then you have to consider the Japanese OP is entirely different video. Maybe they'll have the old American OP as an extra or something.

I'm puzzled by this too. It is cel-animation so a transfer is certainly possible unless they've lost the source, but I very much doubt Viz has access to the original prints...
If it's just an upscale of the dvd source, it's just pointless.

That's what I think it'll be unless they say otherwise, that they have the original film elements ready for cleanup and scanning. I doubt it if they plan on releasing the BDs just later this year, considering SM's length of episodes.

Oh, there's even a photo for the press release and on ANN's interview:

Yeah, that looks goddamn awful.

but you still have to understand that season 1 is a 1992 TV Anime.

That's irrelevant, Charlene. Age has nothing to do with quality unless you're specifically tying filmstocks and qualities to a certain era. If age was the major factor, then old films would all look like shit just because they're old. More specifically to anime, Patlabor and Nadia have decent BDs, and they're both older than SM. Urusei Yatsura has an okay BD, and it's a decade older.

Very Happy

The article said that Viz licensed ALL 200 episodes. So, I would assume that episode 67 is included.

And it's getting a new dub, hot freakin' damn! Shocked

I wonder who's the lucky studio that going to work on this.

If I had to make a guess I would say Bang Zoom! would probably end up doing it.

No. Just no. This show is too important for Bang Zoom to screw it up. Sailor Moon deserves a union dub, done at Studiopolis, with Jack Fletcher directing.

Resurrect Animaze for this.

Get Mary Elizabeth McGlynn to direct the dub.

I'm genuinely surprised that FUNimation didn't get their hands on it, but at the same time I really gotta give Viz props!!

I'm really looking forward to this Smile

Regarding my question about the digital streaming service, it was answered in the interview article here: animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2014-05-16/exclusive/viz-media-charlene-ingram-and-josh-lopez-on-sailor-moon

Free, legal and digital Sailor Moon. I'm such a happy fangirl right now! Very Happy
