I'm a proud owner of Tezuka's The Mysterious Underground Men. I ended up buying it when PictureBox was closing and had a sale. I would have grabbed Last of the Mohicans as well but I only had the money for one or the other really. It was worth the purchase and I enjoyed the read enough. Just to see how it looked back then was worth the experience, I had never read manga that old before, quite a difference.

Well,I too have never seen manga that old before either or in this case rarely have. At times, they look like old-time American comics like the stuff drawn by Windsor McCay and that crowd.

This was a fun little article. I haven't had the chance to read any of these works despite having them in our collection. But it is interesting hearing about the history of these classic works. I'm glad that someone took the time and energy to license them for release. It's a shame that Picture Box folded. Hopefully someone will pick up where they left off. Fantagraphics was having some trouble too but it seems they are relying on the fans to give their input and help to get such works published.
