Watamote has some social commentary element but it's supposed to be a comedy considering it is adapted from a 4-panel manga. The situation and her responses are just ridiculous and everything always leads to some funny conclusions. Not to mention the protagonist has a selfish and elitist personality. Lets just say the author is doing her best to prevent the audience from sympathizing with her.

I'm jazzed to hear that Monica Rial has done a great job on the dub. When I was watching Watamote being streamed, I absolutely loved Izumi Kitta's performance as Tomoko. At that time, I found it hard to imagine an English dub performer bringing quite the same endearing, creaky blend of defiance/angst that Izumi coaxed out of her throat. I love Monica in the right role and this might be it.

Wow, that's a complete 180 degree spin on the Watamote dub compared to what Zac had to say about it on ANNCast.

It's not a four panel manga, but with the level of care and effort they put into it, being between 8 and 15 sparsely drawn pages a month and maybe a few more pages for the prequel manga, it may as well be.

They hate almost everything though. You should take it with a grain of salt.

Christ I hate it when people say this. It tells me automatically that:
1. You don't really listen to the show very often and when you do
2. You only pay attention to the negative opinions due to confirmation bias and don't notice or care when we have positive opinions
Ugh. We do not hate everything. Not even a little.

That's true. I only check out when you have industry guests from the likes of Funimation or someone involved in anime production/licensing. I've tried listening to others but there's so much snark that I end up turning it off after a few minutes.

Sorry we let you down, I guess. But we don't "hate everything".
