I was perusing Rightstuf when I noticed a note regarding the higher-than-normal pricing for the collection. The note said the English subtitles could not be turned off.
This concerns me. I'm aware such restrictions are generally taken to prevent re-importation into Japan, so I was curious if this is actually true.
The price doesn't upset me, but it would if there's no way to disable any of the subtitles.
I would have preferred they remove the Japanese audio than stick ugly text across the screen.
If anyone can verify this for me, thanks ahead of time.

what do you mean higher than normal?
nis america sells this for 199$ on their website
the msrp is 249$.
the subtitles are NOT burned in if that is what you are asking
if they can be turned off depends on your blu-ray player, but they are encoded as a forced track
since u speak english dont even worry about it

I have the NISA Cardcaptor Sakura Blu-ray set. While listening to the Japanese language audio, I cannot shut off the subtitles. I gather from patatochobit's post that this may be dependent on the player.
If you listen to the English audio track you have the option of no subtitles, partial subtitles or full subtitles.
Since you have said you could do without the Japanese audio, I don't see that this would be a problem for you, just don't select that track.

Players aren't supposed to disable forced subs, but then they're not supposed to be region-free either.

What's there to "wut" about? Players are supposed to stick with one region and honor forced subs. Plenty don't adhere to the rules.

Well, I was comparing to other NIS titles.

This is what I was looking for. I don't intend to get the set for myself, but as a gift, and I wouldn't want the recipient upset they'd have to watch English subtitles while listening to an English dub.
I'm fine with subtitles being required on Japanese audio, since the recipient doesn't speak Japanese.
Thanks for the help. It'll make for a great holiday present.
