Sounds like the review might've been written before Media Blasters issued a press release about the defective discs. As they know about the issue about it going back to the main menu after each chapter and are issuing replacements to people that got a copy from the bad batch.

Given the fact that this a 16-year-old girl voicing for a porn game, I wonder how the manga even got serialized with such an extreme premise.

Don't know what is so "extreme" about this OVA. Rolling Eyes

Do you mean in the USA or Japan? as the age of consent in Japan is 13 so a 16 year old merely voicing it at 16 is hardly going to be a problem.

I'm from the UK were at 16 sex is legal unless

"If person A is over the age of 18 and is in a position of trust to person B who is under the age of 18, it is illegal for A to engage in sexual activity with B."

So I do not believe that a 16 year old basically playing make believe would be a problem. (though being paid for actual sex under 18 is illegal)

Before the matter comes up again, let's be clear about one thing here:

"Age of consent" and "age at which a person can legally work in sex-related trades" are two entirely separate things in most countries. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I believe age 18 is a universal international standard for legally working in the sex industry.

nothing really aside from shock value for laughs. I really enjoyed this ova series and I'm actually happy it's out to legally own now.

While the national age is 13, every prefecture has an age of consent over 16. That raises the de facto age of consent in Japan to at least 16.

It's a norm but not a mandated standard AFAIK. This is where I know it differs (or used to): it used to be 16 in the US until 1984. Currently 17 in Ireland. The age of majority in Columbia is 16. For Switzerland 16 is sexual majority. However certain trades like prostitution are controlled by cantons, which changed brothel licensing to 18 a year or two ago. Media is still unaffected, or at least not criminalized within the national standard. Also I know Germany has looser regulations, where the porn simulation game Lula 3d was AO by ESRB in the US while being 16+ USK (unrestricted) in Germany. So I'd imagine a teen VA could be used there.

As far as voice acting in Japan goes, I'm not sure how much it's considered an actual sex trade per se. There may be regulations. But if those apply to minors in general, then they'd still apply to 18+ since they're still minors (i.e. same restrictions on legal contracts). I just think logically it's a matter of degree since there are already teen voice actors in ecchi titles, like OniAi. The seiyuu for main female character Akiko was 14 when she started. I know there are also independent sites that specialize in connecting remote female freelancers, usually for doujinshi eroge (like on DMM, dlsite, etc) where candidates all post sound bites of themselves.

Then there is area of publishing original works. If a high schooler publishes eroge, eromanga, erotic art or novel, like the premise of R-15, does that count as a sex trade?

It's "Kanna Aoyagi," not "Kanna Aogai"

Media Blasters admitted over at Facebook that they had to drop the dub because the Japanese lost the music & effects track, effectively making a dub harder & less financially feasible. It's insanely ironic that the anime about putting voice work to anime doesn't have an existing M&E track so that another country could put their voice work to the anime.

John Sirabella seemed pretty annoyed at this news, too, because he wanted Koe do Oshigoto! to be the debut product of MB's new in-house dubbing studio. Looks like Ladies vs. Butlers will be the debut now.

Ushio, I meant how the Japanese magazine editors allowed this (same goes with Seikon no Qwaser) to be serialized. That is, them saying to the manga-ka, "This idea is lucky enough that it can be serialized in this publication" vs. "This idea is too extreme to be serialized in here".

Too bad they're only soliciting it as a DVD. Even though I love that series, I'm not shelling out for a DVD in the faint hope it causes a BD to happen way the hell later, because then I'm stuck with an unsellable DVD.

Also, weren't they voicing eroge?
