^Boruto starts in April and the novel adaptations go through February. Presumably the epilogue of the manga will be adapted between then. Other than that we're not sure if they'll add more or take a break before Boruto

Episode 491

Yeah, my biggest issue with this episode was the alley scene. Covert mission? Let's fight and make our target scream and beg for his life and make as much noise as humanly possible. I'm sure no one in this city ruled by Big Brother shinobi will possibly notice. This better not turn out to be all in Shikamaru's plan (other than burning the book being important)...

On one hand, Sai seems like he'd be eminently suggestible after years of Danzo's brainwashing. On the other hand, he's been exposed to the Gospel of Naruto, so he's probably immune and faking it.

They probably should have brought a genjutsu specialist, considering there was indication of some sort of brain washing from the beginning. Though had things gone smoothly, it wouldn't have made for a good story, but this just strikes me as poor planning. Also I don't know how auditory and visual genjutsu interact so it may not be any more effective than not having one. Otherwise a solid enough episode.

Episode 492

I'm not quite clear on the concept of how having your outer ears singed --> partial deafness. The nick of time save was kinda lame too, but overall I still enjoyed it. I could hang out with Shikamaru all day. Smile

495 was too weirdly animated for me. I'm fine with some exaggerated animation for comedic effect, but it was so prevalent it felt like that was the norm instead of the normal art style. It kind of felt more like I was watching Crayon Shin-chan.

Also, the way Orochimaru was written in these episodes is just weird. Not necessarily bad, and sometimes funny, but overwhelmingly weird. I know he just kind of becomes pacified after helping with the fourth shinobi war and no one seems to view him as a threat anymore, but even as a neutral(?) aligned character these episodes just had him acting weird like commenting on ramen and standing on roof tops and repeating Lee's yell of "Neji?!".

Yeah 495 reminded of the Rock Lee spinoff in some aspects. Orochimaru seemed a bit more like that version than the regular series, though not much of a bumbling schemer as in the spinoff. I'd say Ten Ten acting as the straight man fits into that as well, but I'm pretty sure she's acted in that capacity during comedic parts in the regular series before that. Neji's characterization definitely fits more with the spinoff, though in not sure how I feel about bringing Neji's back from the dead in a joke.

It has taken a bit more time than fans initially expected, but Naruto Shippuden‘s current filler arc finally ended. While Naruto Shippuden Episode 488, “Sasuke’s Story: Sunrise, Part 5: The Last One,” was quite satisfying in more ways than one, several aspects of the episode, especially its final moments, were considered by longtime fans to be quite disappointing. With Sasuke’s story finally concluded, the anime is now set to begin its next filler arc, Shikamaru Hiden, before airing the events featured in the final chapter of the manga.

The Sasuke Shinden arc, which featured the popular character’s exploits as he traveled around the world to atone for his sins, is widely regarded by numerous fans as one of the finest side stories that were written in the long-running franchise. In a lot of ways, the anime adaptation of Sasuke Shinden explored the events of its source material very well, developing the compelling character very effectively. By the end of the mini-arc, numerous fans remarked that the last few episodes definitely showed the best of Sasuke, as the character was shown to be strong and more importantly, fully reformed.

One particular aspect of Naruto Shippuden Episode 488 that incited a lot of appreciation from fans was the fight scene between Sasuke and Chino, where the veteran was shown vanquishing his powerful foe with some of his trademark techniques. As a bonus, Sasuke fans were able to briefly glimpse Sasuke fighting in a tournament to free many ninjas in the only way he knows how — by battling with dozens of them all at once. Though the fight scenes in Naruto Shippuden Episode 488 were very brief compared to the long and drawn out battles in some of the franchise’s previous filler arcs, the movements of the characters, the quality of the episode’s animation and the background music that was utilized were top-notch.

As of Naruto Shippuuden Episode #494 the series director is now Murata Masahiko. Murata was the series director of Naruto SD Episodes #1-25. Murata also storyboarded, directed, and did all of the key animation for Episode #495. In other words, while he is in charge of the series as a whole now, he made it abundantly clear how much he loves the series while having complete control over Episode #495.

Both of these episodes were pretty much a waste of time for me, with the exception of Iruka, who I've always really liked. Are they really going to do what, 8 more of these picking-a-gift episodes before the wedding (going by 3 days passing with 28 to go)? Ugh.

This is so weird: episode 494 had nice animation but it bored me to tears. I like Iruka a lot but I'm not to fond of episodes based around him. incidentally, episode 495 had severely wonky animation but it was clearly the better of the two. It's the one I really enjoyed; Orochimaru was gold Anime hyper. But now that I think about it, 495 reminded me of Rock Lee SD, which is probably the reason for the animation. Regardless the episode was hilarious. Neji absolutely killed me but that all is saying Anime hyper.

Can this arc and the 2 before it really be called "filler"? They are based on light-novels that have been illustrated and to some degree supervised by Kishimoto himself and are officially considered canon, just as "The Last" is.
Speaking of, "Shikamaru Hiden" happened before "The Last" and this arc after it, so the date most likely did happen off-screen (in the novel it is explicitly stated). But a single episode obviously lacks the screentime for such details.

Really liked episode 496 overall, obviously for being about my favorite characters being cute and funny. The whole romantic misunderstanding-plot was not very original and extremely silly, but it works for this relaxing story. I was a bit annoyed by the unnecessary and out-of-character violence-slapstick at the end, but oh well... anime adaptation humor, I can take it.

For the other plot I have to say that the new season of "Food Wars" really looks a bit weird so far. But I also enjoyed it a lot.
Good stuff overall!

I think the REAL noteworthy thing to happen in episode 498 is Shino smiling a real smile. Smile

Hey for episode 498, the character Kiba falls for is named Tamaki. The ninja cat she owns is named Momo.

previous Shino-centric fillers

That kinda threw me, as I can't recall a single one.

At any rate it was nice seeing this one, since he's always left out in the cold. But never mind Kakashi's face, I want to know what Shino's eyes look like. Smile
