It could literally be anything at this point, since Ghost in the Shell has multiple continuities (the original films, SAC, Arise, the manga....), including the possibility of an entirely new take on the material.
If it's an Arise-related film, whether that means just a compilation or not, we'll find out eventually. |

SaC and Arise are the same continuity. I guess that it is set between the two. A compilation makes no sense because Arise already ran in the cinema. This is so much better news that that Hollywood corpe that keeps beeing resurrected(at leat for now).

Hm, no, not really. The Major's backstory is different and how the team met is different. In SAC, Motoko was a regular child who was in a plane crash and was transferred into an artificial body. In Arise, she was in a car accident before she was even born and her organs were transplanted into a cyborg body, ala Pinoko from Black Jack. The Major fought alongside Boma and Batou in a World War in SAC's backstory, where she met Saitou for the first time on opposite sides of the conflict (it's how he lost his eye). The Major was in her adult body when Section 9 began in SAC continuity. In Arise continuity, she's in this teenaged-looking (at best) body. So yeah, not the same. I mean, maybe if you squint hard enough, but not quite the same. Maybe Saitou was making things up during his poker game in SAC, but you still have Motoko's different accidents. |

I wonder if this will be a wrap up for the OVAs or mix up of the all of them.
God I hope its no the later, I think those are the worse movies made from something that already came out. I wonder if Arise will go the way of the manga and have similar ending with the spoiler[body swapping and Major being framed. Her team yet to formally join the government, so its possible this is going to be variant or something wild. Thinking about it now, I think the lady colonel in the limo is properly going to be end boss for this series.] |

I just want the old guard to come back, especially Tanaka as the Major. Sakamoto...just did not work as the Major. Or at least the way that one was written.

If it's Arise or anything like it, there's no hope for this film. It'll have pretty explosions and a conspiracy or two, but that's about it.
