No, just Shakespeare. Very Happy I'll admit that I'm only familiar with it because we read it in 8th grade. You probably had some other "great book" or in this case play.

Yeah, our class read it in the 5th or 6th grade and did an abridged version of the play.

I don't know if public schools teach much Shakespeare any more. Maybe only Romeo and Juliet. Julius Ceasar isn't on the radar anymore, I guess...

Think we covered Shakespeare in 7th grade...though, that was around 10 years ago...

Let's say I never became a fan of Shakespeare's works...though I did like the Blast of Tempest anime...Laughing How superficial of me.

The Shakespeare that tends to get cover in high school (in New England, anyway) is Macbeth, Hamlet, and Romeo and Juliet, with a few instances of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Poor old Caesar is pretty much off the syllabus, although you do see Othello at times.

I actually almost mentioned the "Et tu, Brute" reference, but then I decided that I'm a big enough non-manga literature geek in this column. Laughing

In Pennsylvania in the mid 1960s we got Julius Cesar in 8th grade and Macbeth in 12th. While I was in college the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet came out and we got to see the Burton/Taylor Taming of the Shrew as well. For obvious reasons the movie versions were a whole lot more fun.

Would you believe me that I've run into the "Et tu" line again? Strange coincidence, as it was used near the end of volume 6 of the Mayo Chiki manga.

If I didn't know any better, I'd be thinking that I should prepare to see the line used regularly! Laughing

At least I now know what it means!
