Avatar and Korra are still children's cartoons though. Aside from their more serial nature compared to other kids cartoons, they don't really help break the stigma. Especially with how poor Korra has been doing in the ratings and they're now burning the last season off online. I think Korra's failure will only justify more episodic and comedy shows from networks. People don't want serial stories out of cartoons in the west.

Definitely, Avatar and Korra still have a lot of cartoony elements, maybe less with Korra. Those two shows are a step in the right direction, but there's still a long way to go. And its really too bad about the ratings situation with Korra. Its unfortunate that the creators are trying something different but nobody seems to be watching. So its back to more animated comedies.

Film studios, although they could have easily adapted to make television programming, instead chose to fight television with what they believed were improved viewing experiences, such as 3-D and the infamous Smell-O-Vision. (On the other hand, most the radio broadcasters back then moved on to television, such as RKO and CBS, and they thrived.)
If my understanding's correct, this sort of thing's what ultimately scuttled AOL Time Warner: the merger was born of the synergies that could be realized from combining Time Warner's entertainment divisions with AOL's internet experience. Meanwhile, TW's divisions didn't even work together much and were even more reluctant to work with the new guy, who ended up being another "also owned by".

At the risk of sounding like a dunce, can someone explain this bit to me? Is there something unsavory about the way Japan makes porn? o_O
JAVs face an extremely competitive market, meaning that a work has to find some niche to fit into or it's not selling. Tentacles, outdoor guerrilla sex, konyuu, loli, ballbusting etc. You name, they make it.

The reason people weren't watching Korra on TV is because of a lack of promotion and a bad timeslot. Season 1 got great ratings on Saturday mornings. Then there was a long break between season 1 and season 2 and the show was moved to Friday nights. That is when the ratings began to fall. Season 3 suddenly began airing on Friday nights with very little promotion, got even worse ratings as a result, and was pulled from the network. In addition to all of this, Korra never had any reruns on the main Nickelodeon channel.

Korra having a serial story and the creators trying new things are not the reason the show failed on TV. Poor handling and a lack of promotion by Nickelodeon are what caused Korra's downfall.

Nickelodeon's run by idiots nowadays. Have you seen their other current shows and business decisions?

We're getting off track now...

Its like Nickelodeon doesn't know what to do with the show. That have Korra in a good timeslot, its does well, rating-wise, they move to another timeslot, it doesn't do so well, and so they pretty much give up on it. I'm guessing its because the show is completely different from the rest of Nickelodeon's programming so thats why they don't really have an idea of what to do it. Maybe Nickelodeon should do something like Toonami and have a timeslot for a cartoon block. Then again, they're not really that kind of network.

KnJ's failure had nothing to do with religion; it pretty well threw itself on the wrong side of standard-level American moralism and the ensuing online shitstorm caused the brick-and-mortar stores Seven Seas depends on to refuse to carry it.

TNA...the old TnA debate...and to think I became an anime fan in 1996 because it had more developed animated sci-fi shows than the rest of the world "only an idiot would satisfy basic needs of female companionship watching cartoons and reading comics" I used to say. how wrong was I...whole generations of IDIOTS came along...

but don't feel bad, anime fanservice fans, the hip-hop industry would be nothing without the TnA either and by fact, is mainstream, watch Iggy azalea and J-LO latest video "booty" and watch the mother of all fanservice in the world.
