I really want to see The Empire of Corpses at some point. And I'm still disappointed that Yona isn't getting a nice boxset.

Oh, didn't even realize that. Guess you wouldn't without seeing the original. Thanks for letting me know.
I remember the Mermaid issue though, a single static screen instead of it being animated iirc.
One of the reasons I got the Remix release was for the proper ops. Odd that Funi didn't use that.
Dare I ask what happened to Birdy?
Birdy had its ending videos shrunk down to a fraction of their original size, while English credits played on mostly-black videos:

This happened in regular episodes:

As well as the final episode, where the credits played over character dialogue and action:

You'd think they could've at least ran an English credits scroll on a black screen at the end of the last episode, if nowhere else, but apparently blank-screen technology was unknown to Funi back in those dark days. (Or they offered some explanation about how black screens with credits took up too much space on the discs, IIRC.) Fortunately, this doesn't seem to affect current releases, as they're either able to get creditless versions or are tasteful enough to run post-episode credit scrolls on black screens or still images.

I didn't even know Lucky Star was getting rereleased, only with a date this time. But I've lost all interest in Funimation products since their Escaflowne debacle so I do have an excuse. Hey, why didn't that one get a Kickstarter for the OVA dub... or am I just being facetious by merely asking the question?

I'm not interested in the show, not even on BD as I only bought the DVD I owned but sold because I wanted to see why Lucky Star was so bad when I first saw it... Episode's 1 "Where's the punchline?!" comment pretty much nailed it so I stopped my rewatch right there. While I do remember the show got slightly better after episode 4... what a coincidence that was when the first director was fired... the show was still only at a competent level when had nothing to do with its actual cast and intolerable when... well, the rest of the time.

In short, Lucky Star was what K-On was accused of, an excuse for moe shenanigans without the latter show's artistry, comedy, music, style, characters and plotlines. Sure, there's something there to be liked, it was be made to be such but there's no substance.

I could say the box set of Haruhi will be a good forgiveness for doing Lucky Star first but there's no way they can do a box set of the whole series or even just the complete TV series; So as much as I love Sigh and the Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody...

You know the drill. I know what Bandai had to do, I have the results on my shelf... at a remarkable "first run" price to boot... but I'm curious to see what Kadokawa allows Funiamtion to do "in retrospect".

You don't like even Lucky Star and want to know why they're not going back to redub a one-shot OVA that presumably didn't get dubbed the first time around by Bandai because sales of the series flopped? Funimation have literally answered why they did a Kickstarter for Escaflowne on the Kickstarter itself:
Quote:
Think of this Kickstarter as more of a way to gauge interest. Because Funimation doesn’t often go back and redub a series that was already on market, we want to know if there is demand for a new dub in the first place. Also, because this Kickstarter was inspired by an influx of fan comments, we want our fans to be more involved and share a dialogue with us, so we can better understand your preferences in a way that a traditional pre-order usually does not.

They also have an answer ready with regards to other Kickstarter dubs:
Quote:
We do not have any concrete plans for another Kickstarter at this time, but the success of this one can possibly open the door to future projects down the road!

August 2016 looks like a pretty strong slate to me. I am undecided on Barakamon, but I am pre-ordering the LE for Blood Blockade Battlefront.

very nice. Time to get Jourmungand. Also going for AssClass part 2, Barakamon, BBB, Samurai 7, Arslan, and maybe Rolling Girls. I don't have the Gunslinger Girl OVAs, but I'm not sure if i want to buy the entire show again just to get them

Pretty strong month of offerings here. Among the bunch, Barakamon, Assassination Classroom, Garo and Rolling Girls have my interest.

That is weird. Maybe there was some odd contract bit that didn't allow them to stick the credits after like so many other release.
Thanks for the info Smile

That excuse was BS because their releases of the DBZ Dragon Boxes, from around that same time, had the original credits intact with the black screen credits at the end of each disc. They also did the same thing with the DVD release of the One Piece Alabasta movie, which was released back in February 2008, at a time when they were still including alternate angles, which were also present in that DVD (mainly for the beginning of the film).

No surprise at no Blu-ray here since this show was DVD-only in Japan and FUNi doesn't upscale stuff themselves anymore.

I wonder if they fixed the subs for this release because there were reports of an important line that was missing from episode 43.

This is interesting because if the disc count on FUNi's website is accurate, this set will have 10 discs with them likely reusing the same 7 DVDs from the old singles (which probably didn't look great since it was back in the alternate angle days) so are they using 2 BD cases for them or 1 huge DVD case? The packaging looks BD-sized so maybe the former?

And while not in a hurry to get it, but I hope Death Parade is soon announced.
