I'm not quite sure I understand the rules for one of the pictures. It's said that "One must be a shot of the carving in action." Does that mean that I need a picture of myself carving it, or just a random picture of it, maybe with a candle inside?

ANN Staffers, I could use your help. I just tried e-mailing in my submission to the contest, and received:
And obviously, I replaced [at] for @ and [dot] for . So, um, help? I would like to participate in the contest. I just spent 5 hours of carving mayhem tonight on it. Thanks! |

Regarding last year's winner: I carved the Paradise Kiss pumpkins that took second place, & I think that the contest was judged fairly. The first-place Hellsing pumpkins were well-carved & very detailed, & the black marker or paint served to add some nice contrast. They were better than mine, I think, & deserved to win. (It took me about 12 hours altogether to carve the Paradise Kiss pumpkins. I would have spent more time on it, but the deadline was approaching...)
Also, I want to add that I'm unhappy because I emailed ANN specifically to ask about this contest & was told there would not be one. Now I find out there is one only after more than half of the entry time has elapsed. I had been checking every day &, on the 24th of October, decided to email because last year's starting date had passed without an announcement.
So I'd already given up before the contest started. I guess I'll try to throw something together anyway... じゃ、 アイスル未来 |

Since the prizes are FUNimation titles we don't want to enter but I must share this pumpkin from our office. We are doing our own Pumpkin carving and costume contests at the FUNimation office.
This one was done by the Brand Manager for Desert Punk. Presenting "Desert Pumpkin" ~FUNiRepBlue~ |

Aww, I wish I had realized there was a contest before today. I would have put more time into my Turn A Gundam pumpkin, though in working on mine today I have made big plans for next year!

I feel stupid.
I haven't even started my pumpkin-_- and people are sayin Oct 31st is late. I started planning and stuff but i haven't touched the pumpkin. I don't even have good knife yet. My mom told me the one I had wouldn't work, and my dad said it would break. What kind of knife do you use? I was going to use a tomato knife because it wasn't bulky, but I don't know. I have to buy new knife I guees. Some one help? |

My original pumpkin ended up being trashed because well... it failed in all ways. But I had a spare pumpkin staring at me this morning, so I did a last minute carving. It was a bit on the safe side, but it came out rather nice.
As for what kind of knives I use, I used the same thing this year I used last year. Worked well enough for me: Xacto knife to trace. Paring Knife for the actual cutting. A small flathead screwdriver for finer scraping. And for cutting off the top and cutting all the way through the pumpkin, I just used one of those little crappy knives that come in pumpkin carving sets. I have ones from years ago that I just put in a bag till halloween comes. Last edited by Akukame on Thu Nov 02, 2006 8:29 pm; edited 1 time in total |
