Looks like this is her debut in the VA industry. I hope it works out.

Matsui commented on the role, "I'm excited to be offered the role. It'll be my debut as a voice actress, but I'll give it my all."

For a newcomer at the voice acting industry to be offered the main female lead right off the bat... Sounds a bit like political casting, frankly. I hope it isn't the case, though.

My last experience with voice-acting idol was Shoko Nakagawa in Saint Seiya Omega and she was pretty bad there (although she is alright in Dragon Quest Heroes, so I guess she became better). But I hope that Matsui will be able to handle the role.

I would imagine that she auditioned for the role, then was offered it after they closed auditions, not that she was approached first.

That defeats the purpose of celebrity casting. She's a celebrity, not a rank-and-filer, and they use her as such. It's more plausible she may not have been offered the role first, but once she expressed interest, they offered it to her. (Industry insiders know that anime is also politics, e.g. "the selection of OP/ED songs in anime are based on industry politics, and often have nothing to do with the content itself.")

As someone who has personally worked in the seiyuu industry, I will tell you: They will absolutely offer a role to someone before auditions (if there is one). Even if there is an audition, it might just be a formality, and the casting has already been decided. I have no idea what the case was in this, but there is absolutely a chance (even if it is a small one or not) that she was just handed this role because of her fame as an idol.

Hm, I was not aware of this. Assuming it was celebrity/political casting, I can only hope that the decision was at least partially based on "hey, she would kind of fit for this role!"
