Now we can watch 30 minute cutscenes in its true glory.

Also, Scarlett Johansson as Meryl

Shareholders logic: each game has an increased amount of CG cut-scenes from the previous installment (with MGS4 having a total of close to 10 hours (!) of CG cut-scenes); they decide to cut it down to a single 90-minutes movie.

This will be bad.

I don't know... while being a good story driven game series, MGS is one of those series whose story isn't all that appealing without the gameplay. Also, we're talking about a game that requires you go from point A to point B without gettin seen from the enemy. I mean, all the time.
If ever, I think Splinter Cell is slightly more suited for the task.

Convenient, they hired the guy who has no films scored above 5 on IMDB.

Metal Gear Solid stopped being a videogame after the first one.
Doing a film ? Ha, just take one of the MGS2+ cutscenes and put them back to back. There is your film. Even Kojima admitted that he wanted MGS to be more like film and less videogame. Hence why so making damn cutscenes in the various installments of the franchise.

"...Jay Basu (The Dinosaur Project, Fast Girls) has closed a deai with Sony Pictures..."

Anyone else catch this? I thought it was kinda funny Smile

I'm curious how a MGS movie is going to work out considering how convoluted the game series is.

I can see where a Metal Gear movie seems like a good idea, but I've never been convinced that it can be done decently. The gameplay mostly focuses on stealth, which isn't terribly exciting for the audience, or at least the people in charge won't think so. Also, with the sheer amount of cutscenes in these games, players basically have movies already. I'm not sure I see the benefit here.

I'm wondering why Konami didn't get him on board for the film? Confused

Ah yes...I remember the frustration and cries heard around the world when he was not allowed to reprise his role as Snake.....

Are they going with an original story or try to boil down the games? I think the whole big boss story in snake eater would make a fantastic film.

Man, someone must've been reading my mind. I had wondered why no one had considered this when it heating up the gaming scene. But will they have a "box" moment? I'm sure if the U.K. does one the U.S, might try to up the ante. Or maybe not.
