Requested by Space_Number_1.

Originally this poll covered all iconic pre-2000 anime; but there is a limit to the number of options that are allowed in a poll -- so the topic of the poll had to be scaled back.

This poll will run for 2 weeks.

I think it's a forgone conclusion who the winner of this poll will be. As for me I had to go with Patlabor. Still a favorite after all these years.

Of those show listed, there is no question. Patlabor all the way. Razz

It is a real shame that there is a small limit on entries. Pre-2000 is a very broad scoop. There is a lot of very good Pre-2000 anime. Also we probably should have some discussion of what "franchise" means. Both of the other two shows I'm familiar with (Bebop and Escaflowne) have only a single TV series and a movie. When I see the term franchise I think more in terms of something like "You're Under Arrest" or "Tenchi Muyo".

I also voted for Patlabor.
That and Escaflowne are the only shows on the list that I have seen completely**, and I like Patlabor much more.

I gave up on Cowboy Bebop after six or eight episodes, I do not really remember. I just could not get interested in the show or care about any of the characters,

The only Gundam that I have watched is 08MS Team. I actually did like that, but not enough to get more involved in the franchise. For one thing the sheer size of it is rather intimidating.

I have seen only a few short OVAs of Macross and felt rather neutral about them.

I have not seen any of VOTOMS or Yamato.

**EDIT: That is no longer true because some shows were added later, but I am not going to change my post every time somebody decides to change the poll.

Bubblegum Crisis and Evangelion added to poll at Space_Number_1's request.

That would not change my vote, but it does bring up the question of whether it is possible to change a vote if this happens.

I did enjoy those two shows but I did not like either of them nearly as much as Patlabor.

Insofar as I can tell, the answer is no.

EDIT: Tenchi Muyo added.

"You're Under Arrest" can't be on this list because this is only for original anime franchises, and not for anime adapted from manga or light novels.

Tenchi Muyo could have been on this list though. Sorry for not thinking of it.

Ah! That aspect of the selection criteria was not previously mentioned. Actually my point was that I feel the term Franchise should involve more than just a TV series and a follow up movie. Obviously your definition is a bit different.

@nobahn
For future reference, what is the maximum number of choices allowed in one of these polls? Knowing this might help in constructing one.

I conducted an experiment and the maximum number of options allowed is twenty.
