Easily the worst episode so far, in my opinion. Overwrought melodrama and hamfisted delivery killed just about any pathos this episode may have had. Come on, Ushio & Tora, you can do better than this.

I just finished watching episode 9, and I thought it was much better-handled than it was in the OVA, which was actually my least favorite story. In the original version it felt overwrought, and although some of the jumps in the new version seemed a bit hasty, it came across much better in a condensed form (something I didn't feel the same about for the beach episode).

I'm really enjoying this new version of Ushio & Tora. Although artistically I'm not sure I like the dark gradient visuals as much as the original, I think as the series progresses it's definitely capturing that "broadway theatrical" feel a lot of 90's anime used to have very well.

So...just how heavy was that truck? Shocked Last week we saw Tora carry a passenger jet to a safe landing, and this week he could barely roll a truck over with the help of half a dozen men? I'd think the boulder Ushio was holding up would be heavier.

I was a little apprehensive after last week's episode, but episode 10 was really good, probably one of my favorite episodes so far. Emotionally hard hitting and thematically interesting, with nice animation and art yet again, and some surprisingly good musical choices.

The monk scene at the beginning also loses a bit since they seem to have cut one of the stories where they sent a powerful, but excommunicated member to try and beat Ushio. The guy comes back later too, so I have to imagine they're planning on cutting the future stories with that guy as well.

i guess we should be glad that they are remaking Ushio & Tora.. this series is better than the OVAs..

but comparing it to the manga.. they are jumping around too much..

are they planning to cram all 33 volumes into 26 episodes ? with no chance of a 2nd season?

There is a 3rd cour planned already. I believe they plan on fitting the entire manga into 39 episodes.

The series is getting two shows; the first one is the currently-running one, with an episode count of 26, and the second run will be 13-episodes long.

This weeks episode felt like it was building to something really big, and while it was interesting, it felt a little anticlimactic.

I doubt the mainland origins of several yokai were intended as a political statement. (Fujita does not seem terribly politically minded.)
I think it's just historical. A decent number of actual yokai legends did actually originate in China and came over to Japan around the same time kanji did.

It'll be interesting to learn why Tora came to Japan in the first place. He seems to dislike his homeland, even down to the name he had there. Or does he just like being called Tora better because he secretly likes Ushio? Very Happy

I don't know why they didn't get off the bus sooner, knowing they were attracting calamity to it. But I got a kick out of "disguising" the spear with a shopping bag on its head.

And the kappa was great. I hope we get to see more of him.

Anybody else think the old guy in the woods is a youkai?
