I am assuming that this poll is about anime, rather than real life, so I said that nothing offends me.

There are things that I do not like to see, but they are usually more violent than sexual.
Nudity never bothers me.

I have no issue with seeing nudity and sexual situations in anime and manga personally. It just comes down to how they are utilized within the title in question.

In all honesty, I can't really say it offends me - and most of the time I don't even consider fanservice in my opinion of a series - but I'm more than willing to say it occurs in bad taste every now and then.

Thank you nobahn for posting the poll for me. Honestly I'm quite surprised by the number of "Nothing offends me" answers. From my idea of the poll, I would expect that the average anime viewer is offended by explicit hentai content. Answering the 2nd option on the list means that you are OK with explicit hentai that only involves typical sexual intercourse but depicts lots of visual detail. I can only imagine that answering "Nothing offends me" means that you are ok with things more extreme as that such as rape, injury to genitals or depiction of fecal matter or obviously underage subjects. So perhaps the wording isn't really clear enough in the poll or maybe it just so happens the first to click on this thread are the ones that ARE into that sort of thing.

I voted for the third option: Nudity, including genitals, is okay.

While I have watched my fair share of porn, I feel that penetration is going too far. We do after all have a lot of kids who roam these forums, and they should only be exposed to that sort of imagery once they are mature enough to handle it.

As for those who claim that they "aren't offended by anything"... do you REALLY want this to become 4chan? Confused

I picked the second option. The important thing for me is context and writing matter. For example spoiler[a gratuitous rape scene just for the sake of it which isn't relevant to the plot] would bother me far more than spoiler[a well written, "tasteful" (for want of a better word when describing such an act) rape scene which does play an integral part in a story]

Violence mixed with sex is, to me, unacceptable in any medium. If it is plot driven and not gratuitous I wouldn't say it "offends" me, but I will not watch it. As far as some of the weirder aspects of sexual imagery Past mentioned, I don't see them as offensive so much as pointless.

In the past I have tried some (probably mild) hentai. I didn't care for it and haven't bothered with it for some time. When explicit sex becomes a replacement for story, plot and characters it ceases to be interesting. I felt the same way about the few similar live action I have seen.

I am not "into" some of those things, but I am not offended by them either. They are just fiction, somebody else's fantasies, and if I do not like them I simply do not watch them.

Perhaps you should have asked about what we like rather than what offends us?

EDIT: Also, the poll refers to sexual imagery and sexual situations.
To me "rape, injury to genitals or depiction of fecal matter" are not sexual. I still am not offended by them in anime, but I do not think that they are within the scope of the poll.

I thought that the poll was about anime, but you seem to be talking about what we post in the forum.

If the poll is supposed to be about what offends us in forum posts then my answer would be different.

I think either avoiding something or not liking something is to some small degree, at least, derived from a feeling of being offended. Some sort of negative impression exists that tells you this is uninteresting to you.

The word "nothing" is so broad that it just seemed that most people would avoid making such a wide sweeping claim about their likelihood of being offended. I consider myself rather perverse in my interests but there is quite a lot I won't tolerate, and I honestly chock it up to being offended by certain things. There's nothing wrong with being offended, especially of things that are inherently offensive, gross or extreme. But I wanted to include that category in my poll anyway, just because that content is out there and people have an interest in it.

So in a sense this poll is a measure of your likes rather than dislikes, because including the first option, in my mind, was targeted at that segment of users who are interested in that extreme sexual content.

You misrepresented what he said. I believe he is referring to anime, and what I said above coincides with SpacemanHardy's meaning that there should be some reservations in your mind before deciding to answer the first option.

I went with nothing offends me but truly almost nothing offends me. I have a hard time with rape scenes

How did I misrepresent what he said? I quoted him directly.
He said "kids who roam these forums" and "4chan." Both of those refer to forums, not the content of anime.
How does the fact that there are kids in the forums relate to whether or not I am offended by something in the anime that I watch?

In that case, I'd probably change my vote to the second option. Sorry about the confusion. Embarassed

I was not really sure that you did not have the right idea. Smile

"Nothing" seems to still be the number one response, with "intercourse" a close second.
It seems that we here in the forums are not easily offended.

I'm kind of surprised by the sheer number of "nothing offends me" so far and that its leading in the polls.

I don't need to see detailed penetration shots in anime or real life to get that people are having sex. It wouldn't particularly add anything for me artistically to a story. I can only assume then that the 2nd option is for porn or hentai then which I consider a different category to mainstream entertainment. If its specifically porn or hentai it wouldn't bother me if I had an interest in it (hentai just seems silly to me).

No way that I could go with the first option "nothing offends me". There's always a line or limit for me. It wouldn't matter if it was live-action, anime, hentai or porn I have no interest in detailed depictions of beastiality, sexual sadism/cruelty, pedophilia or whatever other stuff that's way extreme. Personally, I think some of that stuff will just rot your brain.

So I went with the third option "Nudity, including genitals OK, only brief depiction of sex OK," as that doesn't bother me. I'd be ok if something extreme was handled in a story in a tasteful manner, but I emphasize story and tasteful and it would probably be very rare for me.
