For those wondering: Lotion in Japan can also mean sexual lubricant. It's apparently a parody of a particular brand too. (...NSFW? Just a small image of the phallic-looking bottle and an explanation.)
The pandering was pretty clear in the second segment, but maybe that's because the first half revolved around their F6 forms being slathered in lubricant. I prefer the fanservice be kept to AU segments; in these they usually exist as fanservice parody bishounen or aren't related. It doesn't work as well when they're focusing on awful brothers who are just awful brothers. (Though to be fair, Osomatsu reacted how you would expect him to if Karamatsu confessed.) I also like the series best when it's just focusing on the dumb antics of the sextuplets. This was that at its simplest form: throw three in a room, add a dilemma, and watch things go down. One of the problems with the series is that it's hard to really get a clear hold of the brothers' relationships at an individual level. Some have been fleshed out, but others not so much. It can't be helped, exactly, because there are six main characters plus a supporting cast, but episodes like this give some insight. Plus we still have the rest of the season and probably another to come, considering the show's popularity. I wonder if Osomatsu is normally this nice to Karamatsu? Though the episode revolved around Ichimatsu flipping out, Osomatsu did share food, complemented his clothing (sorta), and tried to keep him from getting a chill. Osomatsu can be pretty awful, but he does seem to put some stock in being the oldest. |

I love how they use the F6 juuuust the right amount. If their appearances were more frequent, I feel like the novelty would wear off.

In the Twitterverse, people are saying that the staff are obviously looking at Pixiv and putting in material that fans are dreaming up.
So hyped for next week's episode! Juushimatsu~! <3 OnoD must've had fun recording the preview. |

I find these episodes that are broken into many little skits to be very hit and miss, the best ones are the 2 or 3 parters.

Same. I appreciate how ambitious the sketch comedy episodes are, but the longer-form narratives tend to resonate better with me. That said, this was probably my favorite skit-driven episode. Also, Jyushimatsu's guffawing during the Peter Pan segment was eerily similar to Sakamoto Tatsuma's trademark laughter. Did my ears play a trick on me or was the chanting at the start of the episode (Ep.17) a reference to Akira. The whole episode was one of the best in general.
The more skits the better if you ask me but i could use a serious/dark episode in the near future. |

@residentgrigo Maybe, but they are both traditional Japanese music, people had a similar confusion with Katanagatari and Ghost in the Shell. By Dark, are thinking of something like the beginning of episode 13? where it turns out he still believed he was living with his brothers.

Loved the play-by-play commentary during the race!
In other news, vol.1 is nearing 100,000 in disc sales. How can they NOT make a second season? |

I hope so. I'd hate to see this become one of those super-popular series to inexplicably never get a second season. |

This was such a fun, zany episode. Osomatsu's characters, even in their usual personas, are so versatile. They go from the usual comedy to being strangely heartfelt to literally trying to kill each. Wasn't expecting that amazing animation sequence either. Looked great! Wonder if this ep will actually come up again. The main storyline does callbacks to previous episodes, but they usually aren't so fourth wall breaking.
Probably just keeping with the franchise. The original comics and anime, from what I've seen, don't really differentiate the siblings. I guess he's supposed supposed to be their leader, so maybe they were treated as "Osomatsu's group"? Now that they have unique personalities, the shared protagonist role is more obvious. Ah, but speaking of which, it was kinda funny/sad when Iyami was complaining about their newfound individuality over an image supposed to showcase that... And everyone is doing their thing but Osomatsu, who just stares straight ahead. With some added adult-ness (gambling+porn), he's the most like his original incarnation. I'm sort of wondering if the writers have anything planned for that? They established in episode 2 that his sense of identity is shot; (dipshit) oldest brother is basically who he is. EDIT: Just remembered: In Hijirisawa Shounosuke's first appearance (ep 2), he winds up replacing Osomatsu as well! |

I thought Totoko was the funniest part of the episode, playing her for every ounce of meanness that they could out of her, and putting her against the F6 thing, both it not working against her and it able to do so.
I was actually having the thought this week that every episode of this series is just so easy to watch, I don't think I have actually dreaded watching an episode for a reason like not being in the mood. I have had a bit of a problem getting my friend and siblings to watch the series, they all pretty much say that it was too weird for them after seeing the first episode, or that it is not for them. How could they not laugh at the purposely cheesy idol hijinks? I could continue watching this franchise, the characters flexibility of the series has a lot to off. |

Ep. 18: This ain't your daddy's Speed Racer! +1 for the contentious love hotel destruction and the Ashita no Joe ending. Batman:The Brave and the Bold also had a very similar episode.
On a more "serious" note though. DC is currently rebooting Wacky Races with the car designer from Fury Road! Witness it: We are living in strange times... Fun facts: Mad Max 1 is a really slow relationship drama and Max isn´t even a proper protagonist. |
