Quote:
The game first makes the player feel the weight of bureaucratic decision-making imposed upon individual combatants via a unique "two controllers for one player" setup. The requirement of a second controller forces the player to experience firsthand the unnecessary expenses the military makes in the name of improvements.

Only two controllers, you say? But that is hardly an authentic simulation of manned flight. True enthusiasts will proclaim, quite rightly, that the enjoyment should begin and end with setting and calibrating a near infinitude of assignments just to see your crate off the chocks.
Indeed, the beauty of such games lies in the sating of that aeons-old human desire to overcome the complex, and in the delight in the process of creation, rather than any feeble fun one might hope to derive from piloting humdrum aircraft.

Wasn't Alien: Isolation published by SEGA as well? That one was well-acclaimed critically, though I don't know how well it sold.

Also, for Great Detective Pikachu, does he go "Pika Pika" in that deep voice too?

The Dragon Quest games sure are keeping Akira Toriyama busy. But I guess that's good, as he's getting paychecks and he gets to draw stuff, which I'm sure is what he likes to do most. Interesting that there's an actual reason behind you having to build things from scratch though.

Even if the NUNS games are coming to an end, CyberConnect2 won't be. They've been working on games of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and One Piece. The latter I can see them having a similar level of passion--didn't the guy who runs CyberConnect2 cosplay as Bepo to a convention one time?

My favorite entry there, by the way, was the Tetris, one, though maybe that's because of the four games used as examples, it's the only one I've actually played. I was originally going to submit something regarding Sonic CD, but I forgot about it and the deadline passed by.

Another new addition: a mini-game where the player collects cards depicting scantily clad women and watches them wrestling like combative beetles on a treestump while actual giant bugs applaud. No one ever said gangsters had tasteful pastimes.

Is that what Yakuza actually do? No wonder they're so appealing to some people!

Dragon Quest Builders is a fantastic game, it looks phenomenal on the Vita and PS4 (most likely PS3 as well, most people who have or are doing videos on it so far are playing it on the Vita or PS4). It does get crushingly hard in the beginning of both chapter 3 and 4, because food is scarce in 3 until you get a specific recipe almost midway through and Chapter 4 is a whole different animal of hard as you have to purify the continent to get what you need all while having relentless enemies chase after you for what it seem forever, although items needed to make food, weapons, and healing items are given out like candy once you get the hang of the purifying mechanic in that chapter. Chapter 3 does have the most fun and annoying boss battle so far this year.

How can a boss be both fun and annoying? Aren't those opposites? Unless there's some artistic intent behind it or something...

7th Dragon III Code: VFD: It's amazing that this finally happened, and it's eerily coincidental that it's happening with another game (or in this case series) after Imageepoch's closure. Once all the assets were sold, I guess this has allowed Sega to dig into their library and start trying to take chances with more of the former company's games being brought here. Seems almost sad that it takes a company being utterly annihilated in the business world to let their stuff get brought over to the overseas market. Though, on the happier side of things, reception toward Stella Glow has been mostly positive and since it took people resorting to fan translations to play the other 7th Dragon titles, it's a sure sign VFD will be snatched up once it comes here.

I, uh, don't have much else to talk about on today's X Button. Just really looking forward to the release of Project X Zone 2. :D

This video might explain why I said it's both fun and annoying, it's also a spoiler.

spoiler[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6IEnnQwcLo

The Magmalice and Firn Fiend can only be defeated by running into them at full speed twice with the car, once to destroy the hand and second to actually inflict damage and there's a time limit after you hit the hand to damage it and if you don't damage them quick enough you have repeat the process all over again and it's easy to fall off the area while in the car especially after you get in a hit and that costs time unless you fell off after inflicting damage and also HP due to the lava, also if you get hit by an enemy or straight into a wall (which is easy as well), you exit the car costing time and HP.]

They also published Colonial Marines & Aliens vs Predator which were two notoriously awful games

They've never worked on a One Piece game in fact people have been begging them repeatedly to make one due to how notoriously good looking they've made the Storm games.

Also Todd I know of a better way to upset Shenmue fans...Tell them the games are a bunch of overrated nonsense not deserving of any of the praise they get. Especially the first game with it's fugly graphics, terrible fight controls, and rather boring game play.

It should be pointed out, that anime Pikachu's always had a bit of a thing for the ladies. He's always got a content look on his face in a woman's arms, and, heck, the first opening has him running under a girl's skirt!

The Japanese opening? I don't recall ever seeing that in the English version of Pokémon.

It's actually in it (at :44): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyXTgqJtoGM

In the Japanese OP lyrics, it's mentioned "Tsuchi no naka kumo no naka ano ko no SUKAATO no naka"

"...in the dirt, through the clouds, under that girl's skirt..."

A pikachu that talks like he stepped out of a Raymond Chandler novel. This looks like one weird game. But then,I've seen more than my fair share of weird games in my life. I think that some of the inspiration for this game may have come from "Scooby-Doo." But,instead of a talking, cowardly canine,we have a talking brave pikachu. While I agree that Danny DeVito might be a good voice for this pikachu,I have a couple of others that might be a good fit for this role. How about Rich Little? He could do a Humphrey Bogart impersonation that would be great for it. It's a shame Leslie Nielsen isn't around anymore. He'd have been great for this. What do you guys think?

Yeah, but Isolation was the last one to come out, at least as far as I know, so it ended on a high note.

Ah, okay then. Who's doing Burning Blood? Is that in-house?

I can see it now: Pikachu is in his office when a Gardevoir walks through the door. Pikachu narrates about dames being trouble. Then it turns out this Gardevoir is male and has a similarly deep voice.

At least someone on ANN said something good about Asterisk, albeit in a backhanded tone.

That Arslan Senki game caught me by surprise. Even in otaku circles, it wasn't that big of a hit. The average Joe would just look at it and ask the clerk, "is this the new Fullmetal Alchemist game?"
