Ah yes, let's get in line to lick the boots of this rape lover...

Can't you at least name her the author of one of her books that's NOT about Stockholm syndrome and emotional blackmail? 'Awkward Silence' is translated, isn't it? Can't we encourage people to look up THAT title instead of this disgusting tripe...?

Well, I think we know who won't be at YaoiCon 2016.

Not sure how many mangaka you've met during your lifetime, but they're often very different people from what you'd think they might be. Toshio Maeda is a great example of this. While he's well known as being the "father of tentacle porn", he's a mild mannered, super sweet man in real life.

I met Makoto Tateno, another yaoi artist who has used rape themes, and she's a very nice woman who loves her alcohol.

Leaving out the 'goddamn' part, I was surprised too. I won't be attending, but huh. Neat for fans, I guess. I've always wanted to visit San Francisco...someday...

@Cutiebunny: Looks are super deceiving with erotica media. I meet the author of the webcomic Starfighter aka Hamlet Machine at Otakon one year. Despite the *ahem* questionable SciFi erotica, she was sweeter than a Georgia peach!! Very Happy I talked to her for awhile about her drawing methods and ended up buying all three of her volumes at the time. She really was too kind and gave me a discount on one of her prints!

If I had the money I would love to meet Hinako Takagana even for a split second. Yes, Tyrant Falls in Love and the beta couple in Awkward Silence are not my cup of tea but I love Croquis, Challengers, and Liberty Liberty!. I've never been to YaoiCon (I knew it existed) but, now I might think about attending.

On the bright side, at least she doesn't write about gangbangs or snuff. spoiler[*re-reads Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai under the table*]

^ If you're serious about going to YaoiCon, I recommend it. The con happens in a hotel about 2 miles away from the airport, so if you stay in the hotel, there's transportation to/from the airport which you can use to take the subway to downtown SF. There's also Uber, if you're ok with spending more.

The con is a small con, but very close knit and allows for more intimate experiences with both guests and other attendees. If you're able to buy a VIP ticket, it's well worth it. There's an afternoon tea party where you can take pics with the GoH.

Why am I not surprised to see fencer here raging about this? XD"
That aside,
Now I really really wanna go to SanFran. Aaaaauuugh. ; v;
But I don't approve of it being called "Yaoi" con. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) KSB isn't yaoi. It's hardcore BL. Yaoi is a term for unofficial doujinshi works.

This series certainly does feature rape, though. Apology rape, even. But it handles that issue certainly much better than most BL does.
As for the emotional blackmail? It's not like Morinaga was thinking "oh, if I drop out, then Tatsumi-senpai will have to take me back". He apologized and cut their ties for both their sakes. He went with it being blackmail since Souichi actually sought him out. Souichi really should've just let Morinaga go. But he didn't. The blackmail part of it is basically a non-issue, considering what the blackmail was about.
Bokutachi no Shippai/Knockin' On Your Door certainly did go too far, though.
Stockholm Syndrome how...? Morinaga was into Souichi even before the violence. And Morinaga went over the line once before Souichi went back for him.

This is awesome! Too bad San Francisco is too far and too expensive for me to attend. The Tyrant Falls in Love is my favorite!

Oh great, here we go into the "she writes rape so she must support it" territory.

The issue with Tyrant (and many other rape-featuring manga) is that many Western fans try to perceive it with their Western mindset, not the Japanese one. In Japan, rape is a popular fantasy, just like male on male sex, btw. Put those two female fantasies together and voila! Best-selling BL manga. Rape isn't so much of a widely discussed social issue in Japan, so that only adds to its 'kinkiness' since that's what it's viewed as.

Is rape often misused in BL manga? Certainly. Is emotional blackmail, which later causes the two characters to more or less fall in love, poor writing? Ohh yesss. But does that mean the author is an immoral rape-supporter? No, not at all.

At the end of the day, it's all fiction, guys. If you don't get your panties in a twist over people getting killed in manga, don't get pissy about fictional rape. Avoid it, if you must, hate it, but let the authors live. Smile

I don't think you have any proof of that.

Rape fantasies are popular everywhere, not just Japan. It's just that it's un-PC to mention it because so many people confuse rape fantasy with real-life rape. They are completely different things. One is real, the other is not.

As someone already mentioned, the rape in Tyrant is very well written. The victim didn't simply accept it; he broke up with his friend immediately. It was only after they were apart for awhile that he realized he still had feelings for his friend and they eventually reconciled. Maybe not exactly realistic for most people but I suppose it does happen. Anyway, it's FICTION. Other kinds of fictional violence seem to be acceptable, I don't see why rape should be an exception. And don't say because it mostly happens to women, especially since we're talking about guys, here. And no, I am not a real-life rape supporter; I think it's a terrible crime. But like most people, I can tell the difference between fantasy, fiction, and real life!
