^ It wasn't as bad as them being so damn melodramatic about Joseph's identity and once again reminding us he's Josuke's father.

ep 12,

I was seriously wondering if they were going to kill off Joseph in this ep, glad they didn't. I was also hoping that the entire senile thing was an act and that he would surprise everyone by knocking out red hot chili pepper or something.

now, whose hand was that at the end. I thought it might be his mom's but I don't recall her wearing a ring

I liked how Joseph calls Okuyasu Osomatsu. It is said how senile and frail he has gone in those 10 years.

I loved Red Hot Chili Pepper in episode 12. The entire encounter was, for me, a return to the Jojo's I know and love. Everything about it was quintessentially Jojo's, from his character design, obsession with rock music, mannerisms, over-the-top absurdity, the energy of the scene and the gravitas with which the show and characters treated him despite the ridiculousness of it all. Straight-faced ridiculousness is always the part I like best about Jojo's, and it's something the series hasn't been doing as consistently well since Stardust Crusaders. When the show is too in on the joke, and tries to actually make jokes and be actively funny, it's less entertaining. This encounter was a breath of fresh air to me.
It was sad to see how helpless Joseph is now, but that's only a minor negative. This was probably my favorite episode of the series so far.

I was wondering if that was originally in the manga or not. Osomatsu-kun had been around for a while by the time Part 4 of the manga was written, but it would've been a massive coincidence to have that reference as the franchise got a huge second wind.

In the version I read, it was. So far, almost all of the references in the anime were also in the manga, it's just really weird how many of them coincided with the people or things being mentioned came back into the spotlight:

  • Joseph calls Okuyasu "Osomatsu" a year or so after Mr. Osomatsu introduces a new generation to the series.
  • Prince is referenced on an episode a month after his death.
  • The Red Hot Chili Peppers arc aired a little after RHCP released their new album.
  • spoiler[The main villain, who had a brief cameo in the most recent episode, is possibly modeled after the late David Bowie.]

While Joseph is unfortunately hard of hearing at this point in his life, I also sort of want to believe he was intentionally making a reference, too. We do see a flashback of him in "Battle Tendency" reading a comic book (Superman in the manga, Araki's own Baoh in the anime), and he asks Rohan later if his work will ever be translated into English, as his Japanese isn't very good. And then there's the whole confrontation with D'Arby the Younger in "Stardust Crusaders," where he was trying to be a backseat gamer to Kakyoin and Jotaro. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a bit of a geek.

Heh, that's pretty cool if that was a coincidence, and the other coincidences you listed are interesting too. Araki hasn't said anything about Prince's death, did he? Apparently, he's quite a fan of Prince, and all of the Prince references in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure didn't escape the Los Angeles Times.

I would've preferred it if Joseph was just messing around though, and yeah, it would've been neat if the guitarist was handily defeated by Joseph and his Purple Hermit because Joseph had already determined his identity.

I rarely associate Jojo with "cuteness" but Joseph's and Jousuke's first meeting must be one of most adorable scenes in recent anime history.

Maybe (probably) this will get explained in the coming episodes, but Otoishi's motivations didn't really make any sense. Okay, so he wants to be a rock star and seems to have the looks and the guitar skills to make it, but why does it mean he has to be an evil asshole and risk life and limb fighting the JoJos? Couldn't he simply have left them alone and focus on his career and using his Stand to enhance it?

From what I remember it never really gets explained why he's a scumbag who wants to kill Joseph but he was using RHCP just to spoiler[ steal a bunch of memorabilia and expensive stuff. So maybe he didn't want his hot heist streak to end?]

I'm also wondering: How did Otoishi get onto the boat escorting Joseph? He seemed to teleport off the dock and onto the boat.

Swim

Somehow without Josuke and Koichi seeing or hearing him sneak off and jump into the water.

Heh, and looking at the clocks and watches people had, apparently, he swims at about 100 kilometers per hour, and without Jotaro and Okuyasu noticing from the boat either.

ep 13,

Was happy to hear "OH MY GOD!" from Joseph again heh, nostalgia right there. Also good to see that's he's not completely out for the count. He can still whip out hermit purple if needed. So we got some bonding time between dad and son, now we need to get back to some ass kicking stand action.
