Why does the the encyclopedia use 'GN' instead of 'ebook' whenever I add an ebook release, thus making me have to add a message to the release corrections post to get it corrected? Am I doing something wrong? Does the scraper just not handle ebooks well?

You aren't doing anything wrong, it just almost never gets them right. Maybe there is nothing feeding from the APIs at Amazon/B&N to designate them as eBooks, or maybe it just hasn't been coded into the scraper yet. I'm usually just ecstatic when it accepts the links from both stores and doesn't complain about ISBNs missing or mismatching.
