Where are we supposed to comment on the surveys?

I didn't think that the recent one on music was well thought out.

That kind of comment can go in feedback. In fact, why don't you put it here? I've adjusted the topic title.

That was the problem, the survey had no feedback option.

I believe that Chris Macdonald (Tempest) is referring to this very thread to leave your thoughts/opinions in.

OK, examples of more categories of music relevant to anime (in addition to anison) would be:

Anison covers,
Anime soundtracks (instrumental),
Non-anime music by artists that you first heard about through anime (perhaps Yuki Kajiura's music for the Chinese motion-capture CGI movie Legend Of Ravaging Dynasties would fit in this category) ;

and in the overlapping areas covered on ANN:

Game soundtracks (perhaps with 8-bit as a separate category) ,
Songs from video games,
Arrangements of game music (eg Video Game Orchestra, Final Fantasy Distant Worlds),
Tokusatsu music.

Having write-in options and feedback on the original survey would have been good;
perhaps they could be included on future surveys.

The thing with surveys is that respondents often don't know why the questions are asked. They're asked to provide us with specific answers.

If we don't ask a particular question, it probably means we aren't interested in the answer. Very often there's only one important question in a whole survey, the rest is simply to hide that question, or curiosity.

As for the music survey, I got the answer I needed, and adding in the changes you recommend wouldn't have effected it.

Write-ins are a mess. Here's an example of a write in and the answers I'll get:

What's your favorite anime?
Berserk
Ranma 1/2
1995 was the best year in anime ever!
Berzerk
Gundam
Avatar
Ranma
Gundem Age
Manga
0080
Stand Alone Complex
All of them
Avatar (The Anime, not the stupid James Cameron movie)
Berserk, Ranma, Gunam and Pokemon
Japanese
Family Guy
GITS
Pokemon, Ranma, Gunam and Berserk
Akira
Perfect Blue
Ignore my last answer, it's Alita!
Psyren
Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop
GUNDAM!!!
etc...

Try to quantitatively analyze 2000 answers like that.

FWIW, There will be another music survey in the near future. I don't mind adding your suggestions into it.

As for the lack of a Talkback thread, Talkback sadly isn't incorporated into the Survey system. We just secured our 2017 development budget, and I'll be figuring out if we're going to redevelop the survey system next year (I want to) shortly. If we do, talkback will be added. In the meantime, there's nothing I can do about Talkback for surveys. Sometimes I manually create one, but that's time consuming.

Thanks for the reply, sometimes I think that surveys are just designed for getting anticipated answers. A "none of the above" /"other" alternative answer with write-in option might help in getting a broader response.

The inter-relationship between anime and its music is fascinating, and how some composers/lyricists/musicians end up focussing on anime music and many voice actresses/actors also sing songs that help provide the feel of the anime.
