@zrnzle500: I'm guessing you're not a big fan of caustic criticism.

If it's of a show I don't like or a generally poorly regarded show I haven't seen I can enjoy it. I'm not against holding shows feet to the fire when they deserve it, but if a reviewer dislikes something I don't and especially if they go off on it every episode, I can't say I like that and if done repetitively doesn't even provide much value. Eventually it's just becomes "we get it you don't like x Rolling Eyes "

And as a watcher of some shows that have gotten reviews from people who were not enjoying it at all, ironically or otherwise, they are never really enjoyable. I'm not that sadistic.

As much as I'd like to watch Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, I don't think I have the ability to really appreciate the show. If I had a better grasp on what makes it a great anime, I'd love to jump on the train and watch it. But right now, it would be difficult for me to really understand how well-written or well-directed the show is since I don't actually understand what great anime is or can be identified by.

Don't let that stop you. Smile Watch the first two episodes of the first season, read the review for them, then read the posts for the episodes (you can skip the bickering ones Wink). If you feel ready, move on to the next, rinse, repeat. If not, review the episode again to see if you can spot what people are talking about that you missed. Just watch at your own pace absorbing as much as makes you happy and don't worry about whatever you think went over your head. Don't make it a chore, it should be fun and rewarding!

If you want to delve deeper, Nick Creamer wrote a very informative article (with a bushel of links to illustrate his points) that you might also find helpful. But mostly, I think you can enjoy the series just fine even without a background in all the mechanics behind it, and taking it apart to see what makes it tick is just an opportunity, not a requirement. So dive in! The water's great whether you learn to swim like a fish or just float along with the current. Very Happy

Well, luckily, Tanya the Evil managed to lose me extremely quickly within...5 minutes, and just bored me through the rest of it. I would've preferred for the second episode to be the first, it was literally the same and I would've known to not keep watching it. Also All Out disappointed me in anime form for the last time, so I have more free space.

I might ironically try Hand Shakers for the heck of it, and probably Kuzu no Hontai, not particularly interested in the premise but I've read good impressions here.

Second episode of Urara Meirochou was wonderful. A wide range of emotions were on full display, but easily what took center stage was Chiya's heartwrenching sobbing as she realizes that she is physically cut-off by the city itself from being able to search for her mom. There's a lot of the world set-up that is rather dubious as to its purpose, such as banning any lower ranking urara from entering into specific parts of the city and especially the taboo that urara must never try to use their divining powers to ascertain the nature of the gods which gave them power. The girls were still cute of course and there were some pretty funny moments, but for me its the world that has been set up that just fascinates me with this title.

IMO this is to prevent a lowe ranking fortune-teller from sneaking into a high district and charging fees as a higher level diviner.

This should make even to us with abrahamic religions, the name of God was suposed to be secret and never spoken, repeating the mere name of a demon may summon it, therefore using divination to get the true name of a god or spirit would make the, vulnerable. This is even an important plot point the the last Noragami anime season.

The Dragon Dentist will get 2 TV specials in February and all the noteworthy pilots aired by now. 2 shows remain staining:

Chain Chronicle: Haecceitas no Hikari 7,5/10 The basis is a (now) Japan only mobile game and the unrelated series of 8 promo shorts from 2014/15 is a waste of time. Another problem is that this borderline feels like a 2nd season, as the writers decided to basically follow a bad ending rout here. The character designs are further bland and it clearly "feels" like a game. More shocking is that the show is actually good! Some of the "RPG functions" are intelligently used, most VA are great and the dramatic scenes that need to work 100% do. I further got to look ahead to ep.4, as the show is also being released in form of compilation films, and it continued stayed good. The dashing pacing continued but i remained intrigued. A surprise diamond in the rough and semi-original too, as the game´s story isn´t being adapted. (Not that i care.)
The healthy 12 ep. limit is another positive, so view this as a "warm-up" to April´s Rage of Bahamut S02.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu 8,5/10 It´s a shame that Noitamina ultimately proved incapable of making sophisticated drama shows as this (their endless angst porn can frankly f##k off) and who knew that Deen had it in them too. I still can´t believe that i will get to see all 10 volumes adapted. Few will appreciate this gift from the anime gods, but I do. They Don't Make Them Like They Used To...

Ongoing is only 3-gatsu no Lion 9/10.
Also: Justice League Action, Star Wars Rebels, Steven Universe, The Simpsons (the Spider-Pig ep. was solid), Teen Titans Go! and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
This month´s Justice League Dark will be a "sneak preview" for another DCEU film and the source comic arc is good, so the curse of mostly average N52 films may break. Bonus points for another (soft) R-rating.

This season is about the rubbish I expected it to be, even if a no-name game adaptation managed to surprise me. Be thankful for small mercies, I guess. Next season will be a winner though, see you then.

Was utterly shocked (not at all) that the second episode of I Want to Interview Monster Girls featured the dullahan thinking romantically of the teacher and going on a faux-date with him. Next time is the succubus who was already blushing pretty hard at Mr. Teacher this episode. Yeah, this one isn't doing anything to convince me that it's not yet another otaku self-insert harem. You'd think that if there are only 3 dullahan in the world and the teacher is just walking around with a disembodied head that there would have been a much bigger reaction from at least some of those around them.

I must admit, Tanya the Evil's "twist" felt so unnecessary. If I were the editor of the guy who wrote the books, I'd have had him excise the spoiler[reincarnated Japanese salaryman] bit altogether and stick to "WWI but with brutal magic girls". The whole "rage against a higher power" spiel spoiler[with the Japanese guy] is just "edgy teenager"-style bullshit.

The fantasy parallel world is interesting enough without all of that.

I didn't see any "rage against a higher power". I saw a salaryman who knew how to advance his career apply the same mindset to the military. What sort of "rage against a higher power" are you referring to? Are you just referring to the revenge push into the train? Cause that can actually happen to unstable people who lose their jobs.

It may be a reference to salaryman/Tanya being really dismissive towards then mad at God, but to me, the show felt like it was mocking that kind of attitude, not celebrating it. That's what turned the show into a genuinely funny comedy for me.

it's a genuinely funny comedy ,back to episode 01 and all those comments made by the characters saying that tanya was so religious/loyal to the country, were actually meta jokes because now we know she's not like that at all and just faking it.

@zrnzle500: Sword Art Online is the perfect example of a show that has gotten much spite over time (at least to me, from time of exposure to SAO which was about a year ago), to a point where I can definitely say, "Please shut up about SAO", to those people. I've seen the flaws you've presented and I can agree with you on these criticisms. I don't need more videos about how SAO sucks as a game too.

@Gina Szanboti: Thank you very much. I'll definitely try that out. Smile

I'm not saying Youjo Senki is AOTS material, but a lot of the reviewers are pretty flippant and dismissive. I agree the isekai aspect is kinda unnecessary and tanya could be a few years older while accomplishing the same "young officer most won't respect" but I was a lot more onboard with the concept after ep2 when we get more of the backstory. We'll see if it continues to skirt that line.

Bamboo showed a gross lack of understanding about the events of WW1 and what led to it, however. It seems, like many, she wants to equate imperial germany with nazis. When in reality, the entire web of pacts was a cluster**** and there was no clear "evil" or "wrong" side like there was in WW2.

Was I watching the same version of ACCA 13 as the reviewers here were? I was mystified by episode one of this show. Was it going to be a comedy? If so, where were the jokes? Would it be a drama? But where was the tension and excitement? Was I supposed to be excited by Jean's discovery of a minor government official who had accepted a bribe? The manner in which he uncovered the offense was simplistic and uninteresting, and there was never the slightest hint that any sort of violence might result. How in the world this sort of work will be made entertaining escapes me. Was this story interesting as a manga? I don't see how that could have been. The best description of Jean and a couple other characters that I can come up with is bureaucrats with an attitude. He just acts cool, but hasn't done anything to justify it (is smoking supposed to be considered cool as well?). In fact, he hasn't done enough for us to even know him--he remains a cardboard character. The show was painfully boring, and a mention that there might be a coup brewing in this seemingly peaceful nation didn't intrigue me much. At the end I still had only a vague idea of what the show would be about, but I was confident that whatever it was, I wouldn't care.
