I agree, but I've bought sets where that mode was the default. I suspect manufacturers don't want purchasers to see a different image from what caught their eyes in a store.

I'd like to also throw forth the idea that they're accounting for whoever sets these TVs up in these stores not knowing about or not bothering to change the settings.
