I'm excited for more awesome fights and Armin proving once again(like he has quite a few times already) why he's the most ruthless character in the whole series.

You the real OG Armin.

Thank you for a post like this, now I can spare myself of watching the compilation movie again.

Now my only worry is the episode count of this season, hope for a two-four, but so far only two BD boxes are listed. I really really want Shingeki to have at least more than decent sales so future season can be a given.

I will be very, very surprised if season 2 does not average at a minimum 20k per volume. My guess is that season 2 will average between 35k and 40k. And I am convinced that we will at least see a third season of one-cour, but I am with you, I want to see this anime franchise continue doing well.

there are a few moment where the amnga feels "low on energy" so to speak, but I trust the anime staff is able to fix that; I had similar concerns for jojo part 4 and the anime staff really did manage to fix those problems.

I'm most interested in what the new season is going to sound like. Although I know that Attack on Titan wasn't the first show to include Hiroyuki Sawano's trademark musical style, it definitely went a long way to making him a "known" creator in the US anime community.

Aside from that, I've always been a much bigger fan of the Attack on Titan manga than the anime adaptation, mostly due to how unnatural it feels for characters to have 10+ minute long conversations while flying through the air (in the manga, you don't really notice how much time these conversations would actually take). Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised this season, though.

There were a few things that were described not exactly how they were depicted in the anime. Some of that I think might have been simplifying for the review format; and I don't know if it's possible some points were based on the manga, which may have differences.

Two points in particular were fairly significant, and I'd appreciate if anyone could clarify whether they were done this way in the manga.

Quote:
Wary of his own strength, Eren agrees under the condition that he be escorted by Mikasa and Armin, as well as members of the elite Scout Regiment, a group of expert soldiers with the skills and fortitude to explore the world outside the walls. Heading up this special task force is Captain Levi, an enigmatic and exceptionally skilled soldier who has little trust in Eren. [...] Thanks to an overwhelming effort from everyone involved, Eren manages to move a giant boulder to patch Wall Rose's massive hole, saving the remaining populace from further decimation by the Titans.

In the anime, the Scout Regiment shows up unexpectedly towards the end of the operation to seal the hole with the bolder, rather than being involved from the start as the quote implies.

Quote:
As Eren studies with the Scout Regiment, he learns about two Titans that Hange has captured to study, affectionately named Sawney and Beane. However, an unknown traitor murders Sawney and Beane to prevent further research, escaping into the land outside the walls.

In the anime, I'm fairly certain there was no indication that the culprit had escaped to outside the walls.

Does anyone know if those differences in summary vs anime are because of differences between the manga or anime?

Like you said, I streamlined some details and combined some things to make it easy to follow as a narrative, just in case someone is reading this on lieu of watching the first season.

Y'know what I like about AoT? Lack of slapstick comedy which most of (especially popular) Anime have. And when the scenes are meant to be funny, they actually are. No character is overreacting, nor do they explain every single "funny scene" with their reactions.

Okay I haven't forgotten all the madness that happened. So I'm ready for S2. I'll have to wait as I don't have a premium subscription. Now that I got streaming going in my home I can finally watch anime on my TV.
