While there are always people with more time than money, for things that are licensed these days the legal sites are much cheaper and more convenient for me to access.

Meaning that, you like how CR site dies every Saturday?

Actually it doesn't really do so anymore, at least for me. While a couple months ago, I pretty much couldn't watch CR on Saturday nights, more recently it has been just as operational as any other day of the week.

I never torrented but I did use those streaming sites, though not in years, aside from a few exceptions where there was not legal streaming site. I've used other methods though, when stuff was available but not in my area, but only once. I certainly don't support using such sites, but if giving them ad revenue is the issue, an ad blocker would do the trick.

See, here's the funny thing: you're actually doing more harm by using illegal streaming sites then you would be if you just torrented the anime. At least when you torrent you don't put money in the pockets of people who don't deserve it.

+1

Yeah, torrenting is quite harmless. Only illegal streamings make money out of piracy, and they should die.

So be it, they get the money that could have gotten to the companies if they licensed the show in my region, so have all my indirect support to them until otherwise.

Is Tokyo Toshokan the latest victim? Their site has been down since last night.

But you do realize that illegal streamings take their stuff from NT, right?
It's not like you need them, or anything. Actually, there is no reason to bother with them (slower, worse quality, invasive ads etc).

Not at all. Downloads are pretty much the only way to go if you want to watch in high quality, view old/obscure anime and manga, view unlicensed anime and manga, BD releases, view anime offline, get OSTs the day they're released, JAVs, visual novels, etc.

I don't think the average person realizes how big a calamity Nyaa's shut down is for the global anime fandom.

Crunchyroll is taking advantage by decreasing the bitrate and quality of it's streams no pirate content competition.

Do you know these messages?
"Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region." (Crunchy)
"Sorry, but this content isn’t available in your country." (Funi)
"This uploader has not made this video avaiable in your country." (Gundam.info)
"Sorry, this website is not available in your country." (Viz)
"OOPS, THIS CONTENT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY Sad" (Viewster)
"Not Available In Your Region" (TAN)
"Sorry, this video is no longer available." (TubiTV)

Some even use fake-404-errors (Daisuki) or just hang up (AdultSwim, Crackle).

I watch legally - but I can't call it "easy".

@Kamiyan3991:
Well - UK only has 3(?) spring-season simulcasts on Amazon (+ Chi CGI-Short). All others give only a "We didn't find results for "Anime" in Amazon Video" Rolling Eyes

Torrents are also about the only way to get HD if you're on a really crummy ISP. Below a certain point streaming may not work at all.

Because I never downloads torrents because I am more likely to to get a virus downloading it instead of using adblock on illegal sites and you can try to convince me that most torrents don't have viruses or anything like that, but I will never trust them.

I think everyone in UK who watches anime regularly should buy Crunchyroll. This way we could watch waaay more anime shows in original version, fast, with good translation, with good sound and video in 1080p, and no ads. And it is just £5 a month - c'mon, everyone spends more on chips for months parties than that. I believe in supporting the anime market strongly. This way no sites like Nya, or whatever the name, would have no more impact as no one would be using them.

"good translation, with good sound and video in 1080p"

Are you really talking about crunchyroll? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh wait you didn't mention correct spelling and grammar for the translation or the quality (or lack thereof) of the 1080p video. So maybe you are right.

There are also some Malaysian DVD-factories that mass-copy Anime - and even some Ebay-sellers outside Asia that offer this garbage...
There are even some sellers on Ebay US offering self-burned DVDs or Animes on USB-HDDs!

And they are very useful for those who live in areas of the USA where your choices are either 3G mobile, satellite or Dial-up/slow DSL internet.

Nyaa's loss is inconvenient, but nothing devastating. I've been using IRC forever, especially for older series which have no seeds anymore. It's the only realistic way of downloading long running series in their entireity like Detective Conan. Modern releases also tend to have a MEGA or some other file sharing website these days as well. I never got into streaming, since I like to own an actual file, so I never bothered with those awful quality stream pirate sites.

The bigger loss is Sukebei, the adult oriented version of Nyaa. Porn sites are a lot more scummy so finding JAV and eroge will be a bit tougher.

Sooner or later one (or more) websites will take it's place, relax. The simple truth is that people get tired even of their hobbies, we can't expect people to run a website for life.

Simply not true. With anime torrents you are downloading data files, not executables (which are the ones that can infect your machine). The only chance of being infected for downloading torrents is that the software you use to download said files was infected (don't trust just any site, go to the source) or that you got infected by the website where you downloaded the torrent files.

Or not: in the short amount of time that has transpired since, ripping groups are continuing to post new episodes via other means.

The mind is drawn to the parliamentary decision to force ISPs to deny access to a certain torrent indexing website. Within a matter of minutes, proxied and cloned versions of the very same website abounded. Those who care for services of this nature—people doubtlessly dedicated to their cause—will soon find their feet and instruct others to do likewise. Social media makes any such transition quite painless.
