Let's be real for a moment...
The notion that non union anime dubs use inferior voice actors is nonsense. The fact is that with VERY few exceptions, all the union actors in LA also work the various non union jobs. Why do you think the vast majority of actors work under different aliases? Given a choice between voice-first 'Saturday morning' animation voice characterization and dubbing Anime, you'd be hard-pressed to find any actors who wouldn't happily close the door to dubbing in a heartbeat and work for union scale and residuals. Yes, Anime can certainly be considered a worthy art form, but for voice actors it is a job and it is a rare actor indeed who would not go where the money is. |
