I'd hardly call this "moving along". It's been nothing but a revolving door for writers and directors since it was first announced. I'll be surprised if it ever actually gets made.

Didn't it take 20 or some odd years to get a Watchmen film out? I thought the end result was pretty good.

I confess I didn't read the graphic novel Shocked

People people!! If we stop going to bad movies, they'll stop making bad movies, so do NOT think about seeing this at the movies even out of curiosity. Pretend it doesn't exist, after all, it shouldn't exist.

There are 2 solutions to bullcrap like this -
- If the movie stinks, JUST DON'T GO!
- If it's a remake of a classic, RENT THE CLASSIC.

All of a sudden, the Hughes Bros. don't sound that bad anymore.

Hmm. It was just yesterday that numerous websites were reporting the project to be dead. Example: http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/07/13/akira-live-action-film-dead-chris-weston/

Guess they were wrong.

Another director? Let's hope this one sticks. Remember the golden rule for these things, nothing is solid until they actually start filming.

We should also pretend it doesn't exist because it doesn't exist. Also, a movie that doesn't exist can't be bad.

Seriously people, I'm tired of the instant remake=bad knee jerk. Just wait until the thing comes out.

Thank you. Somebody understands.

If you don't believe this is true, go back and look at what Transformers fans thought about the first movie before the first teaser (not the rover one), and after the first teaser.

Bottom line: May look crap on paper, looks good on film.

Toa: Except for the ending not matching the graphic novel, I enjoyed Watchmen.

As for Orphan, I haven't seen it, but the guy at least seems a little more like a thematic fit than the Hughes Bros. Of course, that also depends on whether or not he can avoid going Pitof Catwoman on it.

luhead: Warner keeps trying to bring it back for some stupid reason.

I don't know why you guys are all paranoid. Akira's only quality is its production values, as it's an incoherent mess in terms of story. A remake could actually do the story a favour.

With Hollywood's recent record about Japanese remakes, maybe it's for the better that the first team or two don't get to do the remake. They probably would've remade it like they usually do.

Maybe they're having a harder time remaking Akira because it's harder to find people who could remake it not like the usual way Hollywood does it........? Confused

That article was completely speculative, and based mostly on old information. I admit I fell for the headline and promptly showed it to our news staff (Egan and Andrew), but they were quick to realize that there was nothing there (except poor journalism).

Not sure this is the best example, seeing as so many consider the Transformers movies pretty dang horrendous...
