I couldn't agree more with Malintex Terek. On top of that I can't stand Crispin Freeman . I just feel sad now that such a great show is gonna have a painful to watch dub.

They could have cast Peewee Herman and the zombified corpse of Tiny Tim to do everyone in the show for all I care. Avast me hearties, set sail for the sub-titles!

Then don't WATCH the dub. x.x; They put subs on the disc these days, you know!

And I like Crispin Freeman. I think he was the best choice out of all of the choices they did.

Well, you can also count her role of KOS-MOS and T-ELOS in Xenosaga Episode III which I believe was her more recent role. Now that I think about it, I think she'll do great justice with Ryouko especially with that certain incident. Cool

Sorry, but I am not a gamer. As far as I know, Raquel in Scrapped Princess was her last anime role.

Wow. This is almost a who's who of my favorite english voice actors, though I am a tad nervous about Wendee Lee doing Haruhi's voice. Just as long as she doesn't give her a fake southern accent...

Yay for Freeman! It'll be good to see him going back to a different voice again. For those who may not remeber he was Tylor in Irresponsible Capt. Tylor and the crazy gay but not gay guy in please twins. I look forward to seeing his choice of voice for this one.

Oh and if you haven't heard any of his not 'gruff' roles go watch Tylor, his voice is very very different.

That will kill all of it. Please don't go South Wendee!

I have great and high hopes for this one. I also can't wait to see what they do with the songs. (God Knows and Music)

Even now, a while after I first heard the news, a lot of emotions went through my mind; anger, surprise, disappointment, worry; I've gotten over those emotions and I'm now in a state of catharsis, but one thought tenaciously bothers me, even as I write this passage.

What a waste.

Surprise? If you've really been following anime dubs since the early nineties, surprise shouldn't be on that list. What made you think that this dub would be any different than the rest? Dub studios don't care if a story is good, or work to think of how best to represent the stories they tell artistically. They just shove Michelle Ruff and Crispin Freeman into the roles over and over again and hope they can pull it off.

It's really no different than if every movie Hollywood ever put out starred Tom Hanks, Jim Carrey, Angela Landsbury and Drew Barrymore for a nonstop span of 15 years. Even if they're good/versatile actors and you enjoy them, you've seen it thousands of times.

It really is a waste.

So by this thinking, Seiyuu like Kikuko Inoue and Megumi Hayashibara should never do anime again, huh? Get real, these people were cast because they have proven themselves as some of the best in the anime dubbing business in a variety of roles. You may not agree with the choices, but to dismiss it out of hand without hearing a single minute of the finished product is just silly.

On a lighter note, I think I saw my Gundam Seed Destiny Volume 6 (that I am still waiting for a replacement from Bandai) on the floor at the beginning of that video. Laughing

Hmm, will Wendee Lee be able to pull off Haruhi well? while I don't deny she's a veteran, Haruhi is energetic and loud, I personally don't think her voice matches what she sounded in the JP version. I just hope she won't give her the same voice -and accent- she gave Mary Godwin in Xenosaga ep1.

Kyon sounded laid back and kinda bored and while Shannon in ScraPrin sounded similar to him in the JP version, I actually preferred Crispin Freeman as him, so I'll wait and see.

Glad that Stephanie Shen was chosen for Mikuru like I selected in the poll and I don't mind Michelle Ruff as Yuki, I overall have mixed feelings about this selection and though I would stick with the JP version, I'm interested to find out how the dub would turn out.

I'm pretty sure she also does Atoli in .hack//G.U. With her kind of voice and experience, she'll be perfect for Ryouko (sweet, yet sadistic).

I'm very impressed with the cast here. Nice grouping of talent here (not quite sure about Stephanie Sheh because I haven't heard any of her roles, though). I don't remember hearing Wendee Lee in a Haruhi-like performance as of yet, but I'm sure she can pull it off. Michelle Ruff is almost a perfect fit for Yuki, as well, at least if she can get her voice a little bit softer. Bosch as Itsuki? That man was born for that character type, and does plenty of it. I don't think Kyon will be hard for Crispin Freeman. Just needs to sound right. As for Kari Wahlgren, there are two actresses I have absolute faith in to be able to pull off any voice, and she is one of them (the other is Kira Vincent-Davis), so I'm not worried about Tsuruya.

Also, "new" doesn't necessarily mean "better." In fact, I'd wouldn't really say I'd expect an inexperienced voice actor to be better. They may be better, but maybe not.

I also find the "that's like if Hollywood..." comment rather humorous because, largely, they heavily reuse actors and actresses as well. How many movies do you think people like Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones have made?

I'm getting really tired of people saying Freeman's voice is too gruff for Kyon. It's not. His normal voice isn't gruff--he just tends to get hired for gruff characters. His natural voice is actually higher than his typical character and not nearly as rough-sounding. Actually, he naturally sounds not too far off from a teenager. You can hear his normal voice in this podcast. It's not at all a stretch to imagine that he could do the slight change to his voice needed for the role--particularly since he's shown he has a wide range in his roles, and we've *already* heard him as Kyon and *know* he wasn't gruff.

I'm aware he can pull off non-gruff voices - Alan Gabriel in Big O, for instance. But in his voice sample for the poll, I felt his voice was too gruff for Kyon.

I like Freeman as Kyon as well as anyone, I think -- he was my fave in the VA polls, as were Sheh and Bosch with their respective characters. But I must admit that I was surprised that Kari Wahlgren was not chosen as Haruhi. She seemed like a shoe-in to me ever since licensing was announced, forget the polls.

Not that I don't have faith in Wendee Lee's talent, I just don't see her voice as fitting the character nearly as well. I'm glad that Wahlgren's still in the cast but...a tad disappointed that she won't be doing Haruhi.

Overall though, excellent line-up. I expect this to be a good dub.

LoLx1000!!!

...Maybe I'll try watcing the dub of this show and see if I like it better, I'm one of the people on the "melancholy of the overrated" train, but if the english dub is equally good (which it looks to be) I may have to see this for meself.
