And it's not like we don't see news articles regularly about a class or somewhere that's decided to run a mock trial up for a fictional character here in the US.
Not to mention guys who dress up like Klingons & run around. Some guy in the southwest, as I recall, was translating the Bible into Klingon.

I knew a couple who ran up 2 sets of wedding announcements (long before the 2nd movie came out) as themselves & in their roleplay chartacters Han Solo & Princess Leia. Don't think they had the wedding twice, though.

Good sweet Christ. A real funeral for a cartoon character? WTF?

Talk about a nutty advertising gimmick. (At least there's probably not as much panic over this as there was over the Boston ATHF Lite-Brite thing.)

Hate to say it, but it isn't the first time. If I remember correct, both Marvel and DC have done this gimmick too... DC in 1993 when Superman (temporarily) shuffled off his Kryptonite coil, and Marvel a few years later with Professor X, when the mutant leader was temporarily killed to jumpstart the "Age of Apocalypse" story arc. In both cases, IIRC, they had real-world funerals for the characters.

And, in Victorian England, grown men were said to have put on mourning clothes when Sherlock Holmes took the plunge off of Reichenbach Falls with Prof. Moriarty.

Yeah not being there for your own funeral, I feel for ya mate. Wink
But talk about your spectacular spoiler!. I mean who wants to see a movie that has the ending celebrated like that. All I can say is I hope that shrine priest got a big cheque in his collection box for this. As for what to put in that coffin? how about the bright spark who thought this up? Laughing

Well, Raoh actually died in the series in the 80's, so technically, most people who know the series already know he's dead.

I don't see why Raoh, though.

Toki would make more sense....even Rei. >_>

EDIT:

On second thought, why any of them? So many important poeple die in the series, that it doesn't make sense that Raoh was picked. Must be something important in the new movie.

This gets me thinking. Since the funeral isn't for a real person, is the overall mood at the "funeral" still going to be solemn? Not that it matters, I'm just a little curious... Wink

Wow, 20 years later and they do it now?

PS Raoh's new seiyuu SUCKS. He's no where near the league of Kenji Utsumi?

Why the hell did they change most of the cast? I know that Rei's and Rin's seiyuus passed away, but Kenji Utsumi and Akira Kamiya are still active. Why did they change them?

It's bullcrap!

The reason the actors were changed, apart from being dead, is to give the film a bit more of an appeal outside of HnK fans. Kamiya also is getting on and is somewhat unable to do the same voice he was once able to do (it hurts).

That's the main reason they changed it around from what I can tell. Plus maybe it's a money thing? Who knows.

Exactly.

Akira Kamiya will always be one of my favorite Seiyuu, and not just for doing Kenshiro, either.

But I respect the fact that he is passing on the role, and honestly, Kenshiro's new Seiyuu is doing a very good job.

Of course......thats when Kenshiro actually decides to talk.

Kamiya was great and Hiroshi Abe is very good so far, though my fave Kenshiro voice is Takehito Koyasu from Shin Hokuto no Ken. Happily, we can hear more of him in the epic Hokuto no Ken: VirusKiller. Laughing

Talk about nutty. I didn't think that would have happened before.
