This is what I hate about people and their hypocritic ways. When there's something left out like t*** or something you're going to complain about your getting something to satisfy your fantasies, but when it comes to a situation involving a teacher and an 8 year old, you're going to become part of the outrage that this stuff shouldn't be published. It's basically the same thing in nature just presented in a different way. Which one is it? You want it, or you don't Rolling Eyes

Sigh. Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in.

You guys are using some really, really awful logic here.

It is not "morally inconsistent" to accept one kind of erotic material and not another. It is perfectly fine to say "Do not censor sex scenes between consenting adults, but I would rather you not publish material that features sexualized children." A 23-year old woman in a comic book saying "please come inside me" is not the same as an 8-year old doing it, and there's no "moral inconsistency" about drawing a line somewhere.

The fans whining about rape scenes being "watered down" are probably not the same fans speaking out against Nymphet.

Common sense, people, common sense.

If you were referring to my post, in a way, yes, in a way, no. I mean, think about it. We've already got this really outgoing crap on television, sexual references or innuendo is in television shows all the time. Seeing as to how desensitized our culture is, we watch this kind of stuff and we don't get offended. Yet when a child is involved with something, then we're offended. But what put the idea of touching a child in the head of the molester in the first place. Porn mags, crap on television, the music we listen to, General Hospital, etc.

Dude, sex is sex no matter who does it, where you do it, or when you do it. Back a few centuries, kids were getting married before they were even teens. The problem with today's society is that some kids cannot mature fast enough, and adults can't teach them the resposibilities and the consequences of having sex. Heck, adults at times (and I would actually a LOT of times) are irresponsible on who they sleep with, where do you think they get all those "guests" from the Jerry Springer Show? Nobody gets married anymore either.

Looks like v1cious called it. Seven Seas has removed ALL references to Nymphet from its website. Can't see this as a good sign that they will publish the book.

I fail to understand why such a huge deal is being made about this release. It's not like the US hasn't seen manga full of underage psudo-sexual hijinks before. For example, Loveless features a 12 year boy old who is, to put it bluntly, being molested by a 20 year old man. And there's a decent amount of fanservice too; I can think of at least two scenes featuring 12 year old boys naked in a bath.

I agree. If Loveless could get published (In not only Manga form, but anime form) Then I figure that this will get released as well... I mean.. Im not going to buy it because Its not my style, but Im not going to bash others for getting it, because I do have me some pretty Loveless dvds <3

Sheesh... well, I guess no can claim Seven Seas doesn't listen. I still think it's much ado about nothing. I personally don't like loli, for me it's a censorship issue. And based on what I've heard, Nymphet may be offensive but it's not child porn. If it were, I wouldn't waste time defending it. But it's no worse than what's already on the shelfs and on the air already. And if it does come out, I might check it out. Something I wouldn't do if people hadn't made such a fuss over it.

As for the potential for a national uproar, there's still all those copies of Negima and Loveless out there. So the manga/ anime apocalypse may be on hold, but it's still on! Laughing

Considering the inhabitants of Loveless lose their tails & ears when they lose their virginity & Seimei still had his when he was killed as well as his 12 yr old you're complaining about still having his when the anime ended (the manga hasn't gotten that far here, but he had both ears & tail in the last volume I read as did the 2 male Zero unit boys.) The only ones missing their ears & tails would be the female Zero Unit who seem to be similar in age.

In other words, for a yaoi title, the only ones getting any are the yuri couple.

And we never saw Goku skinny dipping. (Just watched Goku's naked ass in the Snake Way ep of DBZ yesterday in fact) Or Ranma in male or female form in the bath or hot springs. Soubi is looking for a master, not necessarily a sex partner, atr least at this point. The unit doesn't need to engage in sex to function if the male Zero unit are still in possession of their ears and tails.
I can't even tell you how many pix I have of my child in the bath when she was littlle. Kids are often very cute playing in the tub & there's nothing sexual about it. Japanese anime seems to have a similar attitude about kids in the bath. It doesn't have to be sexual. Kids without their clothes have a beautiful freedom about them. Will anyone besides family ever see those pix? No. But I still enjoy looking at them & remembering how much fun she had at that age with water. I used to run around topless myself (up to about 2nd grade) & have the pix my parents took to prove this (SoCal. Who needs shirts?)

And just because the child is 8 doesn't mean she can't have some sort of little girl idea of marriage. Most children go thru that stage where they're going to marry mom or dad when they grow up, often both since they don't understand the idea of incest or same sex relationships. It's all part of their growing up so this title probably plays on that to a point, but also likely is aims at the loli crowd.

The loli crowd, however, has more than their share of underage flesh to drool over in mainstream titles. Manga is very free in showing various levels of undress. I've always wondered why a shojo title like Fushigi Yugi is showing the female heroine in her underwear other than as fan service to anyone out there-male or female-wanting to see it because most of us gals can see the real thing in the mirror. We don't need it in our manga really. We see it in our clothes catalogs also. We see various levels of it in the weekly newspaper ads. Yet we see gals in various states of undress in shojo all the time just as we see naked boys in shonen titles all the time. My god, we see babies clad only in diapers on tv commercials. There are probably some pervs getting off on those.

I'm personally surprised by this turn of events. I can't decided if this is a publicity stunt or if Seven Seas actually didn't think this through for real. Either way, I don't remember anyone in the original thread demanding that Nymphet be not released, just that some of us were appalled by the subject matter. I also can't quite figure out how a single weekly edition of Answer Man turned blew up like this, unless someone got "cute" and sent the thing to Nancy Grace or someone similar Rolling Eyes .

That said, I do have one complaint about the letter from Seven Seas. Why does it matter if a woman wrote this verse a man? What would make a woman any less likely to write questionable things? Saying that a woman wrote this title doesn't make it any more or less questionable in my eyes. Woman are no more or less good or bad than men are, so why saying a woman wrote something like this should make it OK? It makes me wonder just how truly "enlightened" people are when the drag up this outdated double standard (the Victorian roll model of women in that they are good and pure in their intentions verse men who are not) Rolling Eyes .

What the Christ is this faggotry?

I don't even like the series and I was planning on buying multiple copies just to support a relatively untouched genre of manga here in the states in hopes that Seven Seas and other manga publishers would pick up more moe and loli fanservice (NOT PORN) material.

This is exactly why the rest of the internet hates Anime News Network and it’s forum community with such an undying passion. I honestly would have stopped posting here completely after the last loli "debate" if it wasn't for the few friends I've made here that keep me coming back.

I hate all of you.

lemmie put it this way: I found some scanlated pages online in which they had the main girl purposely drop her eraser by her feet and ask her teacher to pick it up just so she could flash him. then in the next scene she drops her underwear in the same manner. (the most disgusting scene by far that I saw, however, was involving a spoiler[water fountain and a 'blow job'] innuendo). So yes, in my opinion, and from what I've heard and seen of it, this manga is out-right appalling and should never be put into circulation Stateside. (By the way, I chose to blanket the one sentence with a spoiler warning not because it was actually relevant to the story's 'plot', but because I found the material there to be very explicit).

I believe it will cast a very bad light on how the general public thinks of Japanese comics, as many of them already perceive manga to be "comic-book porn"; this title will certainly help to precipitate that untrue stereotype. And this is not even touching upon the theme within Nymphet about pre-schoolers falling in-love with their teacher.

Its seems like they finally crack under the pressure they are recieving. But its not a huge hit to loli because someone is going to up with something more riduculous.

Seven Seas will lose that core readership demographic of the creepy guy who parks across the street from the elementary school playground.

Well, it's on hiatus, so I don't think ANYONE has it...

(or maybe I'm not following something here...)

Well this was on the shelf at Barnes & Noble the other day. Not sure if it was supposed too though. (Although I did look up the release at Amazon and it says the 25th, and I am pretty sure I was at the store either Friday or Saturday).

this might be in the other thread...i've got so many windows open it hard to tell

So... it wasn't delayed?

Oh, no wait... okay, so the rest of the thing is delayed, yeah?

That'd make sense.
Well to be fair, it might have been put on the shelves by accident as well. That kind of thing does happen, and more often than most people think.

And just to re-affirm what I said in the other thread, I think there has been a bit of an over-reaction here.

I think one way to solve all of this, is to somehow make it so you have to be 18 to buy this stuff. Like buying cigarettes at Wal-Mart.

Keeping the title out of the hands of children is not the issue here. The issue is how releasing this title will affect the image of manga in the public's eye.

I'm not complaining about anything. Loveless is, hands down, my favorite manga. But while Ritsuka may still have his ears, his relationship with Soubi is still sexualized. Soubi IS taking advantage of Ritsuka.

Also, there's some squicky stuff implied between Ritsuka and Seimei in the latest US release. There's a flashback scene were Seimei offers to "service" Ritsuka. Which, when read a certain way, is *very* icky.

But in the context of the manga, it is a bit more sexual. Loveless does pander to Shotacon audiences. I'm not saying the mangaka shouldn't have drawn Ritsuka naked--I can't say I mind *too* much. Wink I'm just saying that, as far as lolishota elements go, Loveless seems similar to Kodomo no Jikan. I'm pretty sure that's the only way they are similar, and I also believe that Loveless handles the delicate material in a much more thoughtful way than Kodomo no Jikan.
