wow didn't know that seiyuus also write scripts.
Is this common in the anime industry?

No it isn't and it sounds like a really bad idea. Seems to me like it's the industry taking this "multi-talented idol/seiyuu" trend to the next level by allowing them to write scripts. People better just pray it actually works or that somebody is really just Ghost Writing for them.
